I've been mostly successful without one, although now I am having a bit more difficulty maintaining/losing very slowly without one. I want to be able to be as accurate as possible at this point. Any quick recommendations for a cheap but good scale I can buy? I know nothing of it...

I have a digital model made by Homedics. It's black, circular and has red digits and looks nice sitting on the counter.

I have the Biggest Loser branded Taylor scale (not a fan of the show, but it was the only one in stock at Walmart with what I wanted). The Taylor scales are much less expensive on Amazon, and do not have the Biggest Loser branding on them. I think I paid less than $25 for it. Batteries were replaced in it for the first time last week, after nearly a year of ownership and daily use. It also tares the container you use, and weighs in both ounces and grams. I highly recommend it.

    I have this one
    http://www.amazon.com/Ozeri-Digital-Kitchen-Capacity-Stylish/dp/B003E7AZQA/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1424042182&sr=1-1&keywords=Ozeri+Pro+Digital+Kitchen+Food+Scale,+1g+to+12+lbs+Capacity,+in+Stylish+Black

Pros are that it's cheap, accurate (I weighed a nickel on it, and it read 5 grams), and I didn't have to replace a battery until last month (I bought it in June 2014).

The biggest pro of this scale that I'd recommend you look for in any scale you are considering is that it takes quite a while of inactivity (3-4 minutes maybe?) before shutting off on its own. I would be so annoyed with any scale that turned off while I stepped away for a minute to get stuff out of the fridge or opening containers and whatnot. I love that I can step away for a bit to do something and my scale keeps the reading for a reasonable amount of time so I don't lose my place or have to rush.

The cons of this scale are that it's ugly and cheap-looking. An eyesore on my countertop.

LOL, whoops, missed this. Hope it works for you, I'm sure you'll feel much more confident in your logging now. :)

The one I bought was at a local hardware store with the brand name Kitchen Living. It's digital and does a good job; only thing I don't like is that you can't subtract the weight of the plate or whatever you put the food onto from the actual weight of the food, so I use a lot of paper towels. Mine is very pretty on the countertop :)

I actually bought a $15 scale from Kmart, lol. I don't even know the brand name...but i made sure it weighs in both grams and ounces and that it tares the plate or bowl off. Probably any scale that does these things will work. I didn't have to replace the battery in mine for a full year (possibly more).

I have a cheap one I bought off Amazon:
    amazon.ca/gp/product/B004101GQC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00

It weighs in grams or ounces, it tares, and it seems fairly accurate. I don't love the fact that it only weighs in 2g instead of 1g intervals, mind you. And it seems to go haywire whenever the microwave or air popper is in use nearby, but I suppose that's all electronic devices that are like that.

Other than that, it's a good little scale and does the trick.

I got an OXO digital - weighs up to 5#, both g and oz, has a pull out feature so you can see the weight of the dinner plate when you zero it out - works great - $35 off Amazon

Thats why you dont buy kitchen stuff at a hardware store...

I bought the cheapest one at walmart and regret it because I didn't make sure it did grams, only does lbs/ounces so i spend time converting. Gonna pick a new one soon
