I think we all get excited about starting a new chapter in our life, especially one that is going to make us feel and look better in the future.

I think it is also normal to have the feeling to be so pumped up about getting started that we overdo it right off the bat. Starting off too fast or working out too long can lead us to feelings of apathy about halfway through feeling humped and thereby making us discouraged with our progress before we even begin to see results. Most of us know this next feeling of giving up and being dumped on. The next step is possibly binging from depression which could lead us to a more unhealthy spot than we were before we ever started.

So, how did this happen. Within just a few weeks I went from so pumped up, to so humped over, to so dumped on. What did I do wrong?

My wife calls it starting off like a ball of fire and ending up a puff of smoke. We need to remember the old fable of the turtle and the hare. When we are making big changes in our life we should make them life changes meaning commit them to being the new way you live before making other changes.

Don't take on too much at one time. Don't change everything you eat, never sit down and rest, and work out in the gym for 4 hours your first week. This is a recipe for disaster. Been there done that.

Change one thing do it every day for 21 days so that the habit of it forms in your mind, then add another good habit to the previous habit. Maybe later down the road we can make big changes but just starting off in a brand new direction after a lifetime of abusing our bodies with the wrong decisions it is better to take it slow and steady.

You won't go from Big Macs and Milk Shakes to 1st place in a marathon overnight. Be patient with yourself and don't let someone else's quick achievements get you off your mark.

Just some thoughts I had. Hope you enjoy them.
