    May be this will help:
    http://www.sparkpeople.com/blog/blog.asp?post=why_the_scale_goes_up_when_you_start_a_new_workout_plan from SparkPeople.com

The MFP community is a place to support people. Do your own research and consult an expert on your specific fitness needs.

Ummm, you linked to a blog about muscle fluid retention to prove that the OP is gaining muscle???
Telling a stranger whose specific workout and diet are unknown that they are gaining muscle is irresponsible, not supportive.

It looks to me like OP is still active. Hopefully she will come back and supply more info or start a new thread so she can get some assistance and get on track. :drinker:

If you're gaining weight (more than just a couple of temporary pounds, esp. right around TOM) you're eating more than your body needs.
    It's that simple.
Most likely you're eating more than you think.
Ignore exercise calories (most of the time), just eat at 10x your healthy goal weight (based on BMI). That's the method my doctor & dietician use.

Here's a newbie help post where I compiled links to some useful info, including sexypants (go read it now, then come back to this thread), sensible goal setting (weight, calories, macros), accurate weighing & logging of food, motivation, etc.

But if you want more personal, accurate, detailed advice, let us see your diary and tell us the answers to questions already asked: weight, height, etc.

    MKEgal,

You give this advice quite often, and I don't think you see how inappropriate it is. Your doctor and dietitian are wrong. With all due respect, some of your sweeping generalizations are not good.

What you're essentially saying is that all people under every circumstance should eat 10X their healthy goal weight in order to lose weight.

Say someone is 300 pounds and their healthy goal weight is 130 pounds. Well, 130 pounds times 10 is 1300 calories, which would be way too low for a person starting at that weight.

What about someone who has 5 or 10 pounds to lose, and her healthy goal weight is 120? So, for those last ten pounds that person is supposed to eat 1200 calories? That's way too aggressive for someone who has so few pounds to lose.

There are many variables to take into account when someone sets out to lose weight, including gender, rate of weight loss, underlying medical conditions, frequency and type of exercise, and the fact that as you get closer to your goal weight you need to lose it at a slower rate. Aggressive goals are most often not sustainable.

When I was losing weight, with my healthy goal weight at 140, I could not have even imagined eating 1400 calories. Eating that low lasted about 2 weeks for me.

Finally, when using the MFP model it is not advisable to ignore exercise calories (cardio) because your calorie deficit is already built in. Also, you need at least some of those calories to fuel your workouts.

    Science gonna science

seriously though, your ideas about muscle gain are just not right .. look into it, beyond blogs about water retention .. check out how you bulk and build muscle.. it's a good learning curve for any dieter and a reminder to protect as much muscle as you can on the way down because building it back is a bugger

10 times goal weight. She always suggests that. I would probably kill someone only eating 1350 a day.

    I stand by my posts.

    1. Muscle will WEIGH more when DOMS occurs.
    2. It is wise to know your labs before embarking on a fitness plan.
    3. Certain exercises as mentioned will pump you up (see 1)
    4. Limiting processed foods (obviously the bad ones) is better for your health.

And if I were to take that advice, I'd be eating only 1150 calories a day.

    Yeah, no thanks.

Muscles "weighing" more from fluid retention is not the same as building muscle. Your original point about gaining muscle on 1300 calories a day is just wrong.

And this.....because I've honestly never heard someone use the term 'pump you up' in a serious manner. And it's just funny.

Wow! you mean I could lose eating 6500 calories a day? AWESOME!

Well, no-one ever mentioned what you do when you live in a country that doesn't use pounds as a form of measurement.
