Gaining Weight

whats up guys and gals? Stephane here. I'm an active fighter who's been competing for 6 years now. Finally taking a rest. Joining the other side of weight by gaining 10-15 rather than lose 15-20 (for weigh ins). I'm pretty disciplined and definitely do not mind eating MORE! Lol. All tips and suggested welcomed. Thanks

Here a pretty good article by Bret Contreras about gaining weight.

For someone who is competative/professional the best thing is normally speak to your trainer or sports nutritionist. Eating more will definietly help (500 cals extra per day is 1 pound per week) and the advice for an average person would be just eat more so that they can make this surplus plus lift hard to maximize muscle gains; however, as a competative fighter your diet is more of a precision tool and your trainer will likey want to monitor your progress and make sure your diet meets some high performance requirements for your sport.

Good luck to you in your training and career progress!

Welcome to the otherside (our side) of the fitness world, yes it's a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT way of living! I was a wrestler back in the day so I know what you go through somewhat. For living on this side of the world, things are different here as you probably may already know.

1.) Less activity: Yes I know you're used to running around doing sprints, push ups, jumping jacks, cardio this cardio that, NO CARDIO in this world! That's until you've been able to gain what you want and can maintain.

2.) EAT EAT EATTTT. Not just protein, that's easy to eat. CARBS AND FAT my friend. Is there a healthy bulk, well yes there is, how much and how bad do you want to bulk, either way you need eat a ton don't get tied up with how "healthy" it is. I mean don't eat candy, cake, and cookies all the time, but hey throw in a cookie, throw in a piece of cake, you need to bulk and any extra calories will help. But yes there are PLENTY of healthy foods to eat that are rich in fat, carbs, and protein. I would also drink powders like protein powder and yes there is a carb powder with no sugar called Karbolic, highly recommend.

    TRAINING STYLE

Okay this is NOT what you are used. Training MORE will make things worse for this goal NOT BETTER, I don't care what you've read or been told. You need to recover, unless you decide to take steroids which is WHOLE other topic of discussion that we can talk about, you NEED TO rest rest rest. At least 8 hours of sleep each night, AT LEAST. DO NOT spend MORE THAN 1 hour at the gym and that's pushing it! Go in and get out. Bang out your main exerises that day and that's it. No more than 4 days a week at the gym. What do you do on your days off?? NOT BE ACTIVE, be LAZY, spend your entire day eating and drinking shakes. Sounds silly but this is what we do.

Welcome to our world of bulking and gaining size! If you don't like what I just said, well there is the maintaining and losing weight group that will be happy to have you :). haha I'm kidding well sorta. Hope this helps!!! Message me individually if you have questions for anything about this and I'll be more than happy to help!
