Is anyone on a gluten free diet, or semi gluten free (trying to stay as close to it as possible). If so, have you had success with it?

I've been gluten free for four months. For health reasons I cut out all grains, alcohol, sugar, coffee and yeast. In one week my skin cleared up and brain fog lifted. In three weeks I effortlessly dropped 18 pounds. I've found so many good recipes and am cooking the most satisfying, delicious, and nutrient dense food I've ever had in my life. I don't crave carbs and sweets as much as I used to. My energy has increased gangbusters, so for the first time in forever I really want to exercise. So for me it has been a game changer. The cons: it has been awkward socially to not be eating the standard American diet anymore. Grocery bills are higher.
  • Why? Do you have celiac disease?

If you're semi-GF, can I suggest going full GF? Your gluten allergy will get worse with repeated exposure. Don't gamble with your health.

. . .you do have a gluten allergy, right?

As a celiac myself, I would never recommend that someone go on a Gluten Free diet to lose weight. If you want to cut calories by eliminating a lot of the breads, muffins and donuts in your diet, that's smart, but if you're just replacing gluten with non-gluten flour alternatives, they are higher in calories, don't taste good, and expensive.
