Hi everyone!
I am new to the "myfitnesspal" world - and so far I am loving it!
I am currently on mat leave with baby #2 and trying my damndest to get this baby weight (and then some off). I would LOVE to lose 40-50lbs.
I have tried various methods and nothing seems to be working.
Right now I have cut out Pasta, bread, potatoes, and rice from my diet and that helped me lose 5 lbs. I am already struggling to get past that.
I know from my food entries my problem is Sugar - Its not like I eat chocolate, candy etc - but I have an ultimate weakness for juice.
It's bad....If you gave me a choice between all the junk food/fav foods in the world,,,and juice. I would choose juice!
I am already a gym lover (which is nothing new - I always loved a good sweat). I go 3-5 days a week depending on my kids and hubby of course.
Anyway I would love to get some advice and meet some people on here to give me that extra boost of confidence that I can nip this sugar thing in the butt!!

What is your calorie goal? Do you weigh and journal all your food? For how long have you been following your current regime?0

Hi there Silky and welcome.
The links queenliz provided are a wonderful starting point. Without weighing your food and using the data base provided by MFP (or similar) using reputable calorie counts ie avoid generics, and user made look for USDA and such, then there is no way for you to accurately track your calorie intake.
Making this a habit can take up to 2 months and may seem tedious and long winded in the beginning but as time goes on you get quicker and the knowledge you will gain will be invaluable to you on your journey to lose the weight you so desire.
My suggestion would be to invest in a set of food scales and start weighing and logging all your foods and liquids, you may well be surprised as the result. As for the juice issue, I'm a bit stumped, you could try diluting the juice so as to cut down on the calorie hit and make a concerted effort to increase your water consumption instead.

The South Beach Diet (original) was based on the glycemic index, while later iterations (before the diet was sold) focused more on glycemic load.
The gist there is: choose foods with a lower glycemic load, as those will keep you fuller, lead to less cravings, and less "HUNGER!!!!".
I use the glycemic load concept in my choices. I'll choose a whole wheat (100%) bread over white bread, and what not. I look for options that are higher in fiber, lower in sugar, and with more nutrients.
It's worked well for me.
Whatever you do, it has to be workable for you and your lifestyle.
Best of luck!
ETA: and YES the links provided above are AWESOME.0
