At the beginning of this year I decided I needed to change. Over the last 3 years I have gained 80 pounds and feel horrible about myself. About a month ago I really changed my life. I cut out all soda and junk food and eat all fruits and veggies. I even exercise every day doing cardio. In that month, I've only lost 2 pounds. I'm starting to feel very discouraged and I need of helpful tips and recipes. I welcome all tips!

    Keanna,

Well you are taking the right steps by cutting out the soda and junk foods. They are full of calories, but contain almost no nutritional value.

    My tips are simple:
    1) Drink at least 8 glasses of real actual water. Juices, gatorade, and other choices add sugar and calories you just don't need.
    2) Try to get 8 hours of sleep at night. Sleep helps the body to repair itself, and is shown to reduce stress.
    3) Try to make sure that you are eating at least a snack every 2.5 to 3 hours during the day. If the food you pick is healthy this will help to boast your metabolism, and prevent you from crashing or feeling sluggish.
    4) Cardio is great, but you should add some strength training into your workout. Studies have proven that weight training can actually be more effective for weight loss. A lot of women think bulk when they think about weight training, but you can even use your own body weight for exercises like lunges, squats, push ups to see drastic changes. Youtube has a good selection of different workouts if you need help getting started.

    I hope this helps!

    Renee
