That is the question! What works for you? What have you done and seen the pounds drop off?

Just vigilantly weigh, measure and log my food, and the weight started falling off. Simples
Until I joined MFP nothing worked!
  • Wearing ankle weights around the house ( if you're not shy also wear them around town). Even when watching tv on the sofa, just lift your legs up and down slowly whilst sitting down and you'll also tone your legs.

Eat in a deficit. (At first I did this on Weight Watchers. Now I do it here.)
These have helped with my body composition (and given me more calories to eat): lift weights and run and hike.

Tracking every single nibble. Exercising allowed me to eat more, but it was being honest and tracking everything that got the pounds off. I just need to get my head back in the game and work harder at keeping it off now
  • Just counting calories. Pretty straight forward, honestly. I count everything that passes through my lips and make sure I'm running a deficit; Even if it's just a slight one, I'll lose, and that's enough for me.

Eat less, move more. Weigh and measure everything and be patient.

Precise and obsessive weighing and measuring.

Finding a liking for exercise and training.

Realizing that in terms of foods nothing is out of bounds, that anything can be made to fit in with my daily calorie and macronutritional goals and that deprivation will ultimately lead to failure.

    Strict logging. Every bite.

I have a lot more freedom because of it too. The food I'm cooking is delicious and more balanced so I don't feel like I'm missing much. And to have peace of mind knowing if I do want some candy I can have it without guilt.....I'm over calories today but still at a deficit. It's very freeing to know all I have to do is accurately log my food.

I've been wanting to ask this for a while. How can you be over, but still be in a deficit? If I go over my calories then I'm in maintenance

I assume it's over the calories the individual has set themselves.

    Maintenance is 2500
You set yourself 2000 for a 500 deficit
    You eat 2200
    You're still in a deficit of 300.

I have a lot to lose so my deficit is big. Occasionally I'll use up a little of it but still be in deficit. I don't even think I could eat my maintenance calories at this point lol.

Aah ok. My deficit is tiny as I'm down to my last 8lbs. So no room to wiggle for me :disappointed:
