Ugh water....

Let me preface this by saying I like water, I do, but unless I'm thirsty, I can't force myself to drink anything. I know I'm not getting my required water in and is probably hurting me in the long run. I've tried flavoring it with fruit/veg, still not motivating me to drink more.

Help! I dunno what to do.

There are little juice bottles you can add to your water that gives it a flavor of either ice tea or anything else and there are flavor powder packets that do the same.

those mio juice packets aren't too great though.......the chemicals they got them in are crazy......tried lemon? either raw, fresh lemon squeeze.....or even the concentrated stuff down the condiment aisle?

i never was a big water fan either.....what got me to like it, was i basically forced myself, to drink one 8 oz. cup before each meal.....so that's 3 cups right there. i also drink a cup upon waking (4).....and a cup before bed (5).....and well, during a typical 1.5 hour gym session.....i typically guzzle down like 3-6 cups......ehehe.

i most always hit my water goal, of half my weight, in fluid ounces, of water, per day......the more i lose. the easier it is to hit that goal lol

I have a big 22oz water bottle. I fill it, and end up mindlessly sipping from it all day. I also fill it up multiple times to hit my water goal when I remember to bring it to work. Perhaps giving that a shot can help you.

Yeah I'm not fond of the squeeze or packet things. I always have some combo of lemon/lime/cuke/mint in my water & it sits there. Just goes back to having to force myself to drink even if I don't want to.

    Thanks for the replies.

I think I may have to set a timer on my phone to remind me to have consumed X amount by this time... The only time I have no issue is when I'm working out. Then I drink 2-3 24 oz container.

I think it's been stated on here that the 8 glasses of water a day is not really necessary. Just drink it when you're thirsty and you should be fine. I don't really keep track of water and never aimed for 8 glasses a day. I drink it with meals and that's about it.

If you are drinking other liquid you might be getting enough -- that includes milk, coffee, soup.

Are you also calculating, your water intake; from pasta, soup etc.? I've been recently drinking Cascade Ice Sparkling Coconut Water, it offers the carbonation of soda; without the Calories. Also how about making water ice and/or slushies?

Personally, I've found that going by thirst doesn't work for me. I can go pretty much all day with very little water, and then suddenly in the evening I'm feeling really thirsty, I start sucking down water, and then I'm up half the night having to pee. :astonished:

As a previous poster said, a good water bottle that can be with ya all the time helped me. I have several Contigo water bottles, most are 24 ounces, but I have a couple 32 ouncers, too - spill proof, they fit in my cup holders in the car, easy to toss in a backpack or even some purses, and they can go in the dishwasher. I never go anywhere without it - work, shopping, driving my kid to school, etc.

For myself, I try to get 1-2 cups of water in before coffee & breakfast. Easy most days because I workout early anyway. But any day of the week, water first, then coffee. I also gauge whether or not I'm well hydrated by pee color. Too yellow, I need more water. Light yellow or nearly clear, I'm good. And it's much nicer reaching the end of the day not feeling parched, and knowing I can go to bed and sleep through the night without any bathroom breaks!
  • I've heard so many different things....how much water should I be drinking?
  • I use pint glasses to keep track of how many "cups" I'm drinking (easier to input into the app.) Try chugging one glass soon after you wake up, then fill it and keep it near you, sipping as you go. Once you're done that glass, chug a third, then repeat and sip the fourth. 8 cups down. Boom!

I find it much easier to drink room temp water. Too cold and I can't guzzle it.

I wish I could find a way to stop peeing all day though!

I agree that there's not a health reason to drink if you're not thirsty or dehydrated, but it does provide some non caloric oral stimulation that is helpful for weight loss. I keep a 1.5 liter carafe at my desk and pour from that pretty much constantly at work. Then I get my steps in walking to the bathroom umpteen times a day. I was not blessed with a large bladder.
