For the people who are doing or starting insanity, what type of diet are you following? Your own or following the nutrition guide that comes with insanity? How about calories, are you going by what MFP calculated or guidelines that came with insanity?

BUMP.
I'm going to read the nutrition guide (when it comes) and then decide, it was made to go alongside it for a reason, but having said that, I don't know how practical it is! Without reading the guide, I was planning on upping my calories to suit the exercises.
*I've just downloaded it and will post my informed reply!!0 -
I just started Insanity a few days ago. I don't plan on following their nutrition guide, though I'm sure it's helpful. I already watch what I eat and think that's enough for my needs. I watch my calories and make sure to make healthy meal choices. I worry that trying to follow such a strict guide is too time consuming and budget busting.
The guide is just that, a guide. If you have a nutrition plan that fits your needs, stick to it and just make sure to up you calories to fuel your workouts.0 -
Hmm, looks like quite a lot, but like I said, it's a good idea to follow it as it's been designed to help your body. I'd be wary if it were trying to 'up sell' some sort of Insanity food products, but it seems sensible. Having said that, also seems like a lot of hard work!
Sorry that my opinion is sitting on the fence!0 -
I do not follow the meal plan offered on Insanity but I am following the recommended macros which are 40c/40p/20f. MFP is very generous with carbs. See this for a good explanation of macros: http://www.teambeachbody.com/home/-/dl_get_file/32ea4c06-2287-4660-8adc-8db758929d280

In my opinion the calories they allow in the insanity handbook are way too high. I adjusted for what I thought was good for me. I ate cleaner but did not follow the nutrition book literally.0

I don't follow it at all. I'm borrowing Insanity from a friend so I didn't get the meal plan, I'm in week 7 and have lost 15lbs so far. I do try to keep an eye on my protien and make sure I don't consume fewer than 1500cals a day and if I do I eat a bit more on the weekend to make up for it. If I eat less than 1500 my energy goes way down since it's such an intense workout. I had to play around with my diet to see what worked for me. I just try to make healthier choices and portion control.0

I just finished Insanity (YAY!) and I stuck to my own macros (40/30/30) and -30% of my TDEE. I tried to stay with it at the 1280 that MFP was allowing me, but I didn't have the energy to give my workouts 100%. -30% of my TDEE gives me 1600 calories and I found that my workouts improved a TON after that. Even improved my distance PR on pavement runs0

You can manually enter any exercise you want. Wear an HRM to get it as accurate as possible, then just add the calories burned and time.0 -
I have been trying to keep with the nutrition plan and have seen decent results through month 1 (10 lbs 3 inches). I'm staying to 40/40/20 and 5 meals a day, but my calorie intake is a little lower than theirs (they had me at 1800, I'm at 1500, which at the beginning seemed like a huge amount of food to me). Trying to eat mostly unprocessed but not always and I don't always use their recipes - that being said, I'm a huge fan of the yogurt, fruit and nut bowl for second breakfast post workout!0

I would not be able to even guess at my calories burned since each DVD varies so much and really depends on how much I push myself so I use a HRM. I go under cardiovascular then my exercises then at the bottom go to create a new exercise, name it put in the minutes and calories burned. It then saves it under "my exercises" and I can click on it and manually change the calories burned.0 -
I have added exercises before but i'm having trouble finding a heart rate monitor that continually takes readings instead of having to stop and putting my finger on it or something... any suggestions? i can't spend an arm and a leg either...0
