Protein

Question! When I exercise, the protein requirement goes way up. Saturday did a 40 mile ride averaging 16 mph and my protein requirement went up well into the 100's! Is that correct? Does the body requirement really go up that much?

Yeah protein is crucial for your muscles and as you use them a lot more when exercising you need to consume more protein, it's all good though protein is great for the body! the most important of your macros in my opinion, especially when exercising.0

It went up because your calories went up from exercise.
Were you really eating less than 100 grams of protein?0 -
I was ... a lot less! 50 grams was, for me, a lot of protein! Guess you think I should step it up? After my 40 mile bike ride, it said I should eat something like 160 grams of protein - when this summer comes and I whip off 80 miles, I would have to eat a whole cow! ;-)0

Yes...Eat more. I'm a 138 pound female and I eat above 100 every single day.

Hi Blseeds. Both people are correct here! Protein contains amino acids which build and repair your muscles - which you need after long cycle rides! Otherwise they won't repair and you chance your arm that you could get injured! Add me Alexpalmer10 to see my protein intake if you want!0

I eat 180-220g a day. I actually find it very easy, just eat protein in every meal of the day. The cool thing about protein is the foods that contain it are really tasty, and there are so many options! Chicken, tuna, egg, steak, fish, protein shakes and bars.

Thanks everyone. Will add you alexpalmer. And dhooddh, DANG! If you can do it, I can, right?! Funny thing ... I lost 21 pounds yesterday. But ... dang ... my scale died. Darn! ;-) And, alexpalmer, you are young ... you have a much faster metabolism and have more calories available to get that protein in.0
