I'm not an expert by any measure, however I think the WLS works because even though the metabolism might slow down in response to a very low calorie diet, it does not go to 0. If you eat very little you will lose weight and the wls makes it harder to eat a lot.
The "eat more" in "eat more to weigh less, does not mean "the more you eat the more you lose". Rather it means "eat more" than a lot of diets, particularly very low calorie ones, would have you eat. You take a more moderate deficit, which might keep your metabolism from slowing down as much as on a lower one. I think the most likely benefit though would be not losing as much muscle mass while losing, and most importantly, a greater likelihood of being able to keep complying and losing more in the long haul, as one doesn't feel as deprived as on a much lower calorie diet.0 -

I think you miss the point of eat more to lose. It's not that you necessarily "need" to eat more to lose...it's that you can eat more than say...500 net calories per day or some stupid *kitten* **** and still lose weight...you still eat a deficit of calories, just not some mammoth sized deficit the ends up burning up a bunch of LBM along with the fat.
The people who tend to eat more to lose, in my experience, tend to actually stick with their dietary lifestyles and have sustained, long term success. They also look really good when they reach their goal because they've tended to preserve LBM.
Also, gastric band is medical...not some do it yourself, on-line, I'm going to net 500 calories per day because I really want an ED bull ****.0 -
Eat more "smaller meals" to keep metabolism up. Not eat more in terms calories. Always calories in vs. calories out at the end of day.0
