Water?

Can someone tell me what role water plays in weight loss.
Every diet I've seen encourages you to drink loads of water ?
I always thought it was just so you didn't feel hungry but the more I'm reading and learning about weight loss the more I think that that can't be the only role it plays?
Does anyone know

Your body needs water and studies have shown that people who drink two 8 oz. glasses of water before meals lose weight more quickly. What is likely happening is that these people are replacing the sugar ladened drinks they would've had with the meal with the water they are drinking before the meal.0

That is because if you drink water before a meal, you will feel fuller faster. That is it.0 -

I've never felt full from drinking water. Ill, perhaps, but not full, and certainly not for the whole meal. However, I have not felt the need to drink as much or to eat as much of the foods that have a lot of water. Coleslaw, for example, has a lot of water but it also has significant calories. I find that I'm more likely to eat more of it if I'm thirsty than if I'm not.0 -
Sometimes when I want a treat I make myself drink a glass of water first then wait 10 or 15 minutes. Sometimes that glass of water makes me forget all about the treat I wanted.
Mind games mostly, lol. But I do feel better when I am properly hydrated. Sometimes I drink 8 glasses of water a day, sometimes I drink more, sometimes I drink less. I find it does help prevent me from retaining water, esp. if I have something to eat that is high in sodium.0 -
