Draining Ground Meat (Turkey/Beef) Fat

So I made some 90/10 ground turkey yesterday in a skillet, and a cr-p load of fat began to pool in the pan. After it was cooked, I drained the fat and rinsed the meat fairly throughly with warm water.
I was just wondering how you guys think this should be tracked? Should I still track it as 90/10 ground turkey or would 97/3 be closer to the truth?

I still always track it as 90/10 (or whatever kind of meat I'm eating). I know it looks like a lot of fat, but the caloric difference overall is probably not that great. Worst case scenario, you overestimate your calories a bit for that meal, which is not really a bad thing, IMO.0

same here, also, while it looks like fat/grease and some of it is, some of it is also just water

Ummm.. the water would evaporate... unless you like your meat.. that way...0

You'd have to cook your meat for a while to evaporate ALL of the water off. Also, I usually brown my meat with the lid on because it cooks faster, so the water is still in the pan when I go to drain it.
Moist meat is the best meat. Dry meat is gross.

I do the same.0 -
I track it as what it is so 90/100

why would you purposely make something taste bad? just eat it as is.0

Why did you rinse your cooked meat..... also most of what dripped out was water, not fat. Log it as you bought it.0

Rinsing your meat is gross. You have to use dish soap.0

I rinse my hamburger meat and I blot my hamburger patties, squeeze all the fat right out.0

I ate a hamburger today. Did not blot the fat out or rinse it after cooking it. Waste of time. Eat less of something else if that's truly going to bring you over your calorie goal. Fat is not bad.0

You, washed your meat?
wonder if this is what they call clean eating?0 -
my Mom does stuff like that... Rinsing with hot water, which gets rid of a little fat but much of the flavor, and squishing meat with napkins til it's a dry piece of cardboard basically. I will not go that far personally. I buy lean meats to start off with and leave it at that. I brown it on high heat to cook off excess water and get a good seared flavor. I feel like I make enough sacrifices already dealing with the stupid prediabetes thing as is lol.0

Buy leaner meat then.
There's nothing wrong with fat however.0 -
To make sure I get all the fat I use 80/20. Then dip my bun in the fat for a much better toasting. And then I pray more fat will run down my chin.

oh yeah, with pizza it's gross. I probably wouldn't buy pizza that looks like that in the first place though. I'm very picky with pizza.0 -

Yeah, but not like this, oh lord not this!
My mom always rinsed her ground beef. Therefore, when I started cooking, I rinsed my ground beef. But one day, I was too lazy to drain it and rinse it, and I didn't want to mess up a lot of dishes, so I didn't rinse it. I made my chili with unrinsed meat.
That day was a turning point in my life.0 -
if you are rinsing your meat you may have bigger issues than what you're eating thats the weirdest ***** thing ive heard today. okay, well, one of the weirdest.
seriously fat is not bad, youre not cutting out that many calories that way AND you ARE taking away all of the FLAVOR! blotting excess grease from pizza is much different than turning your meat into .... cardboard patties.0 -
Rinsed meat makes me sad.
I'd use the original calorie information.0 -

So I just googled and read that rinsing it decreases the fat content by as much as 50%. Not sure how accurate that number is, as it was only a quick glance, but I thought that was interesting.0

it's almost like the o.p. thinks he needs to make his food taste bad in order to lose weight.0

I assume it does so because you also lose some meat in the process lol.0
