Hashimotos

Hi Everyone :) I am Vicki, 52 and with a LOT of weight to lose.

Any other Hashis people successfully losing? I was diagnosed 5 yrs ago but can trace symptoms back to when I was 18.
I am finally well medicated (no thanks to GPs but that's another story!) and I am SO ready to lose this weight! Such a daunting task though with half my body-weight to lose and a metabolism that is still pretty poor.

The main issues for me are that I HATE cooking - I just do. I also work full time and JUST about cope with that - so doing anything much in the evenings is beyond me.
I need to find quick and easy low carb meals.
I also need to find a low carb breakfast that I can take to work with me - maybe heating up in microwave once there. (I like to leave 2 hours between my meds and food, hence eating at work.) I also have 2 metal knees, so need to choose exercises carefully.

So looking for some diet buddies - to help me get (and keep) going. :)

MFP has a Hypothyroidism & Hyperthyroidism group: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/753-hypothyroidism-and-hyperthyroidism

I have Hashimoto's (autoimmune thyroid disease). I lost weight slowly, so be patient. But I did it just like everybody else—by eating fewer calories than I burn.

Thanks Editorgrrl - Yes I found it and have added it to faves.

I set the app to 1 pound per week, but even if its only half that I don't have a problem. As long as the direction is right that's fine :)

Thyroid meds (in my case, Synthroid & Cytomel) reduce the fatigue so I can be more active. But I kept gaining until I learned to log everything I eat & drink accurately & honestly. Logging works.

I've never done low-carb, so I can't offer any advice. My endocrinologist told me to eat whatever I like—just learn portion control.

Take levothyroxine & liothyronine with a large glass of water on an empty stomach (at least 2 hours after eating or drinking anything but water) and at least 4 hours after taking any supplements (vitamins, minerals, or fiber). Wait one hour before eating or drinking anything but water.

The meds will leave your stomach in as little as 30 minutes, so an hour is plenty of time. No need to wait 2 hours for breakfast.
