  • Don't fight it accommodate it. It's okay to have a night snack. I have one every night 8:30 - 9:30. Just log it first, then spread the remaining calories around your other meals. Try Fuji apples, good ones are sweet like candy to me.

purple cow popsicles and graham crackers are my nightly sweets these days. I try to always leave some room for one or the other (sometimes both.)

When my sweet tooth hits I usually try to eat some strawberries or other fruit. If that doesn't take care of it itself, then I dip the fruit into hazelnut cocoa spread (I used the Kroger brand, and it's delicious - and better than peanut butter). Hope this helps!
  • Diet orange crush or low-cal hot chocolate (carnation brand)

This is a great post! I am exactly the same right after my dinner I need sweet sugar items! I just binge eat every night. crisps juice chocolate! Anyone any ideas on helping me break this habit? ? I have no motivation and I seriously need to start eating healthy! ☺
  • I know some people have said just ignore your cravings but that's just not always realistic! Especially if your a woman during Aunt Flow's visit!

Some low calorie options if absolutely have to have something sweet (And not want fruit! lol)
Try See's lollipops: they last a long time, get rid of sweet tooth and only have 80 calories. :)
I also recommend the fiber one chocolate brownie only 90 calories and gets rid sweet tooth as well.
    See's Lollipops :80 calories
Sugar Free Jello Chocolate Pudding: 60 calories
Fiber One Treats Chocolate Brownie: 90 calories
Sugar Free Jello Gelatin: 10 calories
Jolly Time Kettle Corn: 100 Calorie Packs

    Hey guys,

So I am just getting started back up with this and identifying triggers and difficult times during the day for me. I realized that 7-10 really is my witching hour(s). I just want to eat chocolate and I'm usually not satisfied after one piece. Tips? Tricks?

Wish chocolate was even an option for me, but it's not as I'm diabetic.

A serving of dark chocolate, fruit salad, or peanut butter takes care of my evening cravings.

This is going to sound weird, and I have never seen it recommended any where else before, but its totally working for me-

    Tea.

I currently have on hand coconut macaroon rooibos, almond sugar cookie black tea, and chocolate caramel black tea from Simpson & Vail. I start getting a sugar craving and instead I make a cup of tea, I don't put milk or sugar in, frankly, they are good enough on their own, and its zero cal/negligible calories.

This is actually working so well for me that I am going to branch out and try some other types of teas. Rooibos and tisanes are decaff so I am going to look for some more of those for my evening cravings.

No, not weird! Thanks for the great tea tips. I've been using decaf green tea for over a year to satisfy any late-night cravings that creep up on me. I'm going to check out these flavors-- they sound yummy. I don't put milk or sugar in my tea, either. The decaf is the only type I use, so Rooibos and Tisanes it is! When I started my weight loss effort last year, I bought some of the "100 calorie" packs of snacks. Problem was that those packs came in boxes of 10. No longer were they just 100 calories. End result: no more snacking for me, and 104 lbs. lost (with 21 lbs to go). Tea, anyone?

Fujis are the bomb. Also crunchy red grapes. They're better than sweets.

I have a sweet tooth that won't quit. I have found that eating fresh clementine or mandarin Oranges actually do a better job of curing my sweet tooth than chocolate does!

Brookside - Dark Chocolate Goji With Raspberry, 8 pieces (1/4 cup - 40 g) = 85 calories. Chew slowly. That works for me.

I wish that worked for me, I eat those things like they're crack and had to stop buying them altogether. They're so delicious I can't stop, and the small size sorta fools me into thinking "oh a few more will be ok..."

For me, I just have to stay away from the sweets. I'm like an addict and it's a slippery slope for me. I have a licorice spice herb tea or eat a grapefruit. I peel eat and slowly eat it by the segment. Someone told me that sometimes we crave sweets because we are low on vitamin C. Not sure if that's the case but I find grapefruit filling and uplifting. Some people can eat just one piece of chocolate. I am just not one of them. Next day I want 2 and then three.

I have an evening sweet tooth as well. I've found if I try to deny it all together I end up going fine (and rather frustrated) for a few days and then binging one night on a stressful day. I've found giving in and saving daily calories for an evening snack is what makes it work. I love dark chocolate chips, savoring one at a time or a good quality ice cream with a small spoon.

This is me, too!! I've learned that denying myself just ticks me off! I love the suggestion of the Brookside candies and, I agree, Skinny Cow & the Jello pudding cups have saved me. I will sometimes snack on tootsie rolls too, they take longer to chew. :)

A big cup of hot chocolate tends to ward off most evening snack cravings for me. Don't skimp on the cocoa powder either, I find the lower calorie versions don't do it as well...but I do 50% milk and 50% water so there's less calories in the liquid, and then a full serving of delicious Ghirardelli double chocolate hot cocoa mix. Sometimes I just do half the liquid and do half a serving of the cocoa powder, depends on my calories. But in either case I say to myself that the hot chocolate is my last "meal" before bed and close the kitchen. It's warm milk so it makes me sleepy, tastes delicious, etc.

Also if you know you're going to snack just add some calories to your late night ahead of time so it doesn't come as a surprise. If I know I'm getting ice cream after dinner I put it in my late night category ahead of time.

It might also help to change your diary a bit. I find Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Snacks is a bit too binary for me because I'm a grazer...I eat all day. So I have a Morning, Lunch, Afternoon, Dinner, and Late Night category instead. I find on days I've eaten very well all of those categories have the same amount of calories, or pretty close to it. When I just one "Snack" category it was crazy looking, haha.
