caffeine

Does caffeine affect weight loss? I'm a teacher and have one normal sized mug per day at school. Over the summer, I usually don't drink as much, closer to one cup about 4 times a week. Is this enough caffeine to matter? I don't usually eat chocolate (I know, probably the only person in the world) but I do love my coffee. I'm getting frustrated. I have gone in spurts where I have actually GAINED up to 1-3lbs in one week, despite watching my calories and this past week I gained 3 even after exercising every day for the past 7 days. Yesterday the scale said I lost it all and then some but it is still frustrating to see the higher numbers, especially when I am working so hard. I would have thought that I would just maintain while my body gets used to the extra activity. Maybe I am being too hard on myself. Any ideas why I gain so much now and then? I didn't know if caffeine can affect weight loss.

I can't start my day without coffee!!

I have sometimes 3 cups a day. I don't know if that is good for me or not but it hasn't affected my weight loss. I have been religiously adding it to my diary. So as long as you watch the calories I wouldn't think that it would matter for overall weight loss.

    Someone else may disagree.

    I have a 24 oz coffee Mon-Fri - and a diet pop usually once a day.
I couldn't live with out the caffeine!
Along with my 64oz + of water a day of course!

Also, if you open your food diary for us to see, we can look at what your eating... Maybe it has nothing to do with the caffeine?

i am not a coffee drinker but i can't start my day off without a diet pepsi so i get the need for caffeine...especially when working with kids all day!!!! :) i don't know about diet-wise but a good rule of thumb in general is to make sure to drink at LEAST twice as much water as you drink caffeinated beverages like pop or coffee to help flush your system out and as a teacher it is healthier for your vocal folds :) (i am a speech-language pathologist excuse my dorkiness) :)
