Midsection and overall body fat

I am about 13 pounds from my goal but I want to tone up!! Any tips? I am eating according to my TDEE recently (to maintain it is 2597 and I eat between 1800-2000). Right now I go to the gym 5x a week and this week I am starting an all over body weight machine routine that works every muscle. Can I have some diet tips and exercises to help with my belly and arms?

  • As you probably already know, there's no spot reduction and no way to "tone" specific areas of your body. In fact, just "toning" a muscle is a myth. There's either more muscle and less fat or there's not.

I know it can be intimidating at first.. but do some free weights. It will make all the difference in the world and perfect for someone with a 10 lb goal left to go who hasn't been lifting.

Lift real weights 3X a week, keep eating how you are now and watch the fat melt away.

    Agreed.

    Keep losing, start lifting.

I am on a bunch of lifting machines working every muscle in my body. Drinking tons of water also. I am nervous to do free weights right now because I have a shoulder injury that is healing through physio and acupuncture. Do you think the machines that work muscles are good? It's basically lifting. I am a member at goodlife fitness and it is called the "fit fix" workout.

Nothing can trigger fat loss in a specific location, it comes off uniformly, typically from the extremities in. IE the legs and arms, then torso.

I am sure what you are doing will get you where you want to be, be patient and keep at it.

I am a big fan of Barre3 - combination yoga, pilates and ballet barre exercises. They have on line videos, and I have seen you tube videos of similar ... I like it because every exercise works on the "core" and "corset" as you do legs, arms, posture, etc. If you do just the 10 minute ones first thing in the morning, you walk, sit, stand with better posture and focus on your core all day long. they also have 30,40 and 60 minute videos. You can do them anywhere! I have toned considerably and am working on being able to go sleeveless on July 4th for like the first time since I was 18!

I really focus on eating well - the www.barre3.com has some great nutrition information, so does the book "Ballet Beautiful".

Lastly, don't forget to make sure you develop good sleep habits. I have discovered it really helps with my energy level.

Agreed. Free weights will give max results but w/ a shoulder injury, I'd probably subscribe machines anyway. You'll still get the majority of the benefit.

Abs are built in the gym and revealed in the kitchen

Eat well and lift heavy long enough and the midsection will come off, no exceptions.
