Nice bunch of people this place has as it forum members :(

Dave, it's not your fault. You probably thought you were giving out good advice, but because the food nutritional scene in NA is so fked up you thought you were doing people a service in warning them of the shortcomings of tilapia.....which is derived from a source that really shouldn't be giving out nutritional advice, especially where fat is concerned. Not your fault.

I wouldn't feed a coyote tilapia, or a commie. It's weaponized food, don't do it.

    Don't do it!

Plenty of people like Tilapia. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it bad.

Also, your high in bad fats argument makes no sense. Last I checked Tilapia doesn't have Trans fat.

I actually do like the taste (or lack there of) of Tilapia. I just think there are better choices for nutritional purposes.

I didn't say trans fat. I specifically discussed Omega 3 vs Omega 6 fatty acids.

I said nothing about my like/dislike of it. I am making an argument for nutrition.

Recipes are meant to give you ideas. They are typically written to appeal to a large audience. If they include an ingredient you don't eat or don't like either adjust the recipe or choose a different one.

Oh for goodness sake don't ruin the thread with logic and common sense.

Hey, one more tip: if you live somewhere where the ingredient is not available, also follow above advice B)

    An example:
    http://draxe.com/eating-tilapia-is-worse-than-eating-bacon/

There have been some ongoing research that shows that farm raised
tilapia has bad Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratios.

Much better fish out there that would work well in this recipe (my opinion).

This is the second time you've posted that there are other fish better than tilapia for this recipe, but I don't see you posting what you think better alternatives are. What, in your opinion, is a better fish to make in this recipe?

Nothing wrong with tilapia. Don't eat it if you don't want to. It's that simple.

Right? It's a recipe--not a binding contract or law, lol. Use whatever fish you find appropriate. That's the beauty of recipes--they evolve and can be modified to fit your individual needs and tastes.

lulz at the fish snobbery. I'd tell you what fish I eat but you've probably never heard of it.

Nutrition isnt the real issue. They are fed corn, testosterone (makes them bigger), and because they are unable to freely move they eat their own poop

Do you think MFP only chooses what to blog based on what's most nutritional? They want people to click on it, which means it should probably be tasty, widely available, and affordable. Tilapia meets all that criteria.

So I'm dying to know, what fish would you have rather they blogged about?
    Tuna.
    Cod.
    Mahi mahi.
    shrimp.
    halibut.
    Flounder.
    trout.

    All easily found.

Tuna.is high in mercury. Shrimp is expensive in the UK and mahi mahi isn't easily found or cheap.

Thanks for posting what you thought would be helpful advice for others! This site has very opinionated and informed people though so they (we?) get a little nutso about foods being ruled out. The reason being is that restricting calories is hard enough without reducing the types of food people can eat. And let's be honest, once you get to the point that a low-fat, low-calorie, inexpensive, source of protein like tilapia is taken off the table, people get grumpy:) I know for me, with a family of 6, this is a go to fish for easy, tasty, low calorie meals.

This is a great place to be though if you want to learn about nutrition, lose weight and succeed in the long term in your weight loss. But it's not for the faint-hearted- that I can agree with you on.

    Lol

I have about 30 different hot sauces floating around my house at any given time, but Sriracha is one of the most flexible ones.
