Hello all! I just received a Polar FT4 to help me get an accurate count for calorie burn. I was never going to get a HRM, but I recently found out that the calorie counters on the gym machines are not correct. OOPS! :p So I bought this HRM in hopes of it being accurate. Or close to it. Well today, I used it for the first time while on the treadmill. I compared both the treadmill counter and the watch. The treadmill said 565 and the HRM said 676. This made me feel ecstatic!! Unfortunately, I feel like this can't be true and I can't seem to find anything that says the calorie count on the Polar FT4 is accurate.

Does anyone else have the HRM and know if it is an accurate number to go by? I don't want to over/under eat.

Thanks for any help!

it depends on the exercise. It has been pretty accurate for me for walking and running. I know this because I lost 48lbs, reached goal and am in maintenance and ate back all the calories it said i burned for those activities. It does not work for strength training and I do not know about other types of cardio.

I have it.. Seems to work for correctly for all my cardio (walking, running, elliptical, swimming). Usually it's the generic readings from the machines that are off, which is why I bought it in the first place.

    Great insight!

Anyways, I have the FT7. I love it and I use it to log my weight training and cardio. Whether people say it's accurate or not, it helped me reach my goals.
