Why are you taking steroids to begin with? Is it for some medical reason? If not, then stop taking them.0

Um... for real?0

Steroids? do you mean something like Prednisone? Lots of prescription steroids will cause some weight gain. I'd run it past your doctor and see what he/she thinks. If you make them aware that you have had weight issues in the past, there might be a better alternative for you.0

I assume you are talking about Prednisone or other corticosteroid used to treat inflammation. Prednisone does make you retain water and feel hungry but you can loss weight while taking Prednisone.

I assume you mean prednisone. It can be a double-edged sword alright. Does your doctor have a plan in place for you to taper off of it or are you supposed to take it long term?
Unfortunately if they've prescribed it long term it means there's a serious health issue going on. Otherwise they wouldn't risk the liver damage. So exercise, try to eat in a way that promotes satiety (lots of protein, fat, and fiber). Discuss other options with your doctor but your health needs to come first.0 -
From my understanding medicinal steroids are usually prescribed on a short-term basis.
My advice is to speak with your doctor about your concerns, if your health will be at risk for not taking it, stick with it for as long as you have to and do the best you can in the meantime.0 -
My doctor just put me on Prednisone for a recent muscle issue with my lower back. Based on the things I've read on here, thank goodness I'm on it for only 5 days taking 2 a day. There seems to be tons of side effects to this medication and yes, I do realize that a person wouldn't suffer from all of them, but it's something I surely wouldn't want to take it for an extended period of time.0

Yes it is a medical reason, one of two things , fibromyalgia or polymyalgia rhumatica. Got to see a rheumatologist at the end of March to see if it's worth carrying on with the steroids. Hoping he will say come off them.0 -

That makes it clearer, and now I understand. My mother-in-law has fibro, it's tough for her sometimes but she makes it. She does her best to stay active though, she loves to go fishing and kayaking.
Even if your doctors don't take you off the steroids, maybe they can help put you on a diet plan/exercise regime that will help you lose weight. I wish you the best of luck, and hope that everything goes well for you.0 -
hi protein low gi diet works to lose weight, I have addisons disease and am on hydrocortone for life... I initially gained weight .. basically I gave up exercising and let the addisons take over me. With the help of my Fitbit and the readiness score it helped me get back into exercising and walking and determined I have now lost half a stone thru diet and exercise. I am counting every calorie and drinking lots of water but it is working so far and I feel 100 times better as my diet is much better than before which wasn't helping my energy with the addisons1
