That seems reasonable to me. I burn roughly 400 running 5 miles twice a week.

I seem to get around 10-12 cal per minute. That's according to the machines.

20 mins on elliptical, 220 calls burned maybe a bit more.

    I log 170 for 45 minutes or 100 minutes.

aiming to burn calories is fine, just jump on the elliptical and do it.

but i aim to do miles, or go for time, and let the calorie burn be what it is.

That depends entirely on your goals and your body, if it's a normal part of your activity, etc. eg I eat 1400-1600 cals at the moment (which is very low for my energy requirements) and if I burned that many I'd be unconscious! haha. I jest but basically it completely depends on you.

Yeah I go for time, 20 mins for example. But I find no matter what machine the Cals are similiar.

    20mins in eliptical 240 cal
    20 mins walking 220 cal
    20 mins bike 210 cal

So I go for 20 mins and then more if some how my Cals aren't high enough.
