5K Advice...

Hi Everyone!

I am interested in completing a 5K. But wait, let me start over. I already completed my first 5K at the Color Me Rad Tampa event. Although I walked the entire 3.1 miles, It was such an awesome accomplishment! Being able to cross the line in under an hour was remarkable! Now I am ready to move forward...I want to be able to run a 5K.

Any suggestions surrounding a fitness routine is welcomed!

Thanks everyone!! :flowerforyou:

If you can find other people in your area that want to do a "Couch to 5K" program with you, that would be even better! Ask around at the gyms, or post an add.

Another vote for the couch to 5k. You're already doing so great being able to walk 5k. When I started I couldn't even do that.

Running a 5K is an entirely different ball game from walking, but I commend you for wanting to take the next step. I used an app called 5K runner to train for my 5K. It's aggressive enough that you don't hit a cliff toward the end, but it's just easy enough that you can push through if you have the will.

There are plenty of programs out there in this category (C25K) and I have yet to hear anything bad about any of them.

Shoes Shoes Shoes. I was stuck at 2-3 miles until I went to a real running store (not the athletic store in the mall) and got fitted with proper shoes and insoles. In a matter of months my mileage increased dramatically and I had no pain. Just some normal soreness but no damage from poor mechanics.

I currently run 13-18 miles on my weekend long runs.

I start out at 300 lbs. Now I hover around 220.
