I have a question for the experts out there??? Can someone explain to me how the macro dieting works? For example- I'm trying to lose weight and stay lean. On my cheat days, I usually go for sushi and realize that my daily carb intake is too high, so if I eat a can of tuna and some egg whites, it shoots back down to where it needs to be but adding more calories to the diet. I was wondering why I have to eat all that protein and add those calories?

    Hi:

    Welcome to MFP. It has been a helpful tool for a healthier life. I hope it does the same for you.
    I am not familiar with a "Macro" dieting.
    I use the Macro information to improve my intake of lean protein, complex carbs and healthy fats. That is all.
    Keeping a healthy body weight is : Calories burned > calories ingested
    I hope it helps
    Good luck in your healthy journey

    Calorie deficit=weight loss
    Macros=nutrients and satiety

    Concentrate on hitting your protein (.8-1 gram per lean body mass, ideally) and fat goals, then use the remainder on carbs. Fat and protein will keep you fuller longer. Also, carbs and protein are the same number of calories (4) per gram, while fat is 9 calories per gram.
