Does anyone else suffer from constipation whilst trying to shed the weight. I am currently on 1200 calls per day and walk for at least 2.5 to 3 miles per day. Eat lots of salad and veg, not eating sweet stuff and also off the booze. Anyone got any tips how I can " get things moving again" please. Sorry for the ew of this xxxx

yes lots and lots... drink more water and a small amount of prune juice daily helps loads.0

Eat more fat and eat more "p" produce--peaches, plums, peas, pineapple, prunes, and peppers (esp. red bell peppers. )0

Fat and fibre. Even if I get 45g of fibre everyday, if my fat grams are low things don't run as smoothly!
Why is it always us women who have this problem??? I never see these threads started by guys....0 -

....And if added fibre and fat don't do the trick... Magnesium citrate will0

Agree with the water. Drink a big glass of water as soon as you wake each morning. Helps to start the day out right.0

Yep--or take some Colace. It won't do anything drastic, but it might get you going again.0

I've struggled for months with this - agree to all of the above. Also, for me, taking a daily pro-biotic has really helped.
Hope you poop soon!0 -

I had major problems for about three months when first starting to lose weight. I do this - giant glass of water in the morning on an empty stomach. Chase it with my morning coffee. No problems since.0 -
Colace once or twice a day, it's a stool softener. Make sure you get plenty of water. Magnesium rich foods- prunes, kiwis etc. and MOM or magnesium citrate, enemas or suppositories are all over the counter though I do not recommend them as first line efforts nor more then once or twice as all can cause bowel dependency.0

I have irritable bowel syndrome and find a kiwi (or two) keeps things going. And lots of water.0

Ideal intestinal tract function comes from the three "F"'s: Fat, fiber, and fluids. Make sure you are drinking enough and watch your fat and fiber macros. I find that a quick, natural solution when I get backed up a little is a big handful of nuts, especially almonds. They have a fair amount of fiber as well as healthy fat.0

Chia seeds. Try in smoothies, puddings, greek yogurt. They need to be hydrated - do not eat them dry.0

Thanks folks will try the water - I know I'm probably not drinking enough and as I have cut fat down to a minimum it's probably that too. Thanks for all of your suggestions and at least I know I'm not alone when it comes to this problem xxxxxx0

When I was eating 1200 a day my bowels slowed to every other day. There just wasn't enough bulk to keep everything moving. Lots of good suggestions above.0

you can also try to drink Epsom salts ( not every day just when it is really bad !!! ) I have also heard that it is good to make enema once in a while. Also you can cut a little the salty foods (salt retains water).0

Exactly. Are you sure you're constipated? Maybe you're an every other day or every third day pooper now.
But, not eating enough fat and drinking few fluids like you mentioned ^^ probably has contributed to your "problem".

Quinoa seems to help me...0

Definitely up your water! I have been drinking 90-100oz a day and have seen a MAJOR improvement. TMI-I could sometimes only go once or twice a week! Not good0

Mom's advice: Eat an apple every day.
There was a thread yesterday about coconut oil where someone said putting it in their morning coffee kept things moving.
Personal observation (not a recommendation): A crash and burn, way over daily calories, high fat, high alcohol steak dinner fixed me up this weekend.0 -
Magnesium citrate.0

If not, an ergonomic toilet stool might be something to consider. I'm a fan.

Yes, water water water! Don't forget, our body is like 2/3 water, so it's essential for everything our body needs: Hydration, good vital signs, good chemistry in our blood, and BM.
Make sure you're getting plenty of fiber, and eating decent "healthy" fats, to lube things up lol. A stool softener will help as stated above. If you use a laxative, only do it for a short time, couple days max. Too many people become dependent on them and can never poop without it!
When I increased my protein intake, I had he same problem, I went to my diary and evaluated my intake, and realized I was NOT getting enough fiber! So I upped that, and made sure to drink that water.
Good luck, let us know how everything comes out in the end!! lol0 -
Magnesium in the form of vitamins. Miralax. Prune juice. White grape juice.0

Stay very hydrated and Smooth Move tea works very well! All natural and very gentle0

Take Magnesium, it will help0

I posted or told someone about my constipation and I have an appointment with my doctor because I drink all the time (water), then tried mag citrate and thought I was going to die. I cramped so bad, and broke out in sweat. I am a nurse and had eaten plenty of veg., and no trouble with fats. I took women's ducolax 3 tabs a day until box was gone, Ex-Lax 2 tabs 2 times a day. After all this I am finally starting, but I know there is still a problem. So of to the doc I go. Wish me luck.

I drink at least 12 cups of water each day, exercise at least one hour and am eating healthier that I ever have, and I suffered from IT for a couple of weeks before I decided to get some fiber capsules. Much better now, thank goodness!0
