Fluoxetine Weight Gain

I started Fluoxetine twice in my life. Both long term treatments for my depression. During the times I was not on the medication, my weight was normal and I didn't tend to substantially over-eat. During the times I have been on it, such as now, I am almost 20 pounds heavier and cravings are incredibly hard to control. Even when I do, the weight seems to stay the same. It seems like a big enough difference where I'm considering weening off of it.

I'm curious if anyone has experienced something of this manner while on the medication?

I used to be on anti-anxiety and anti-depression meds; I am also currently on Depo. I never had a huge issue with weight gain on them, but I was never on them long term.

The medicine can change your appetite, which can lead to weight gain. If you are feeling it's getting out of control, I would talk to your psychiatrist/psychologist about potentially changing the dose. Do not wean off of the medicine without supervision, or make any changes to the dose without consulting with your doctor first.

While Depo isn't the same, it's also a medicine that can cause weight gain through appetite changes. I've been mindful of my intake, weighed my food, and practiced moderation the past year, and my weight has been easy to manage. Fighting cravings is hard, and it takes a lot of willpower and discipline to conquer. You've got this.

Anti depressant medication can cause excessive hunger as a side effect in some people. Either try something different, or wean yourself from the meds, with medical supervision, of course.
