My manager has implemented a workplace weight loss challenge starting this Monday so as to lessen the sickness of the upcoming flu season in June. We are competing in teams

Somehow I don't think she will have much success in changing people! You have to be ready to lose weight/to make the lifestyle changes. Maybe the prizes on offer will help as an incentive to motivate.

I'll have to be careful not to get myself in trouble lol. People might think I'm big noting myself when all ill be doing is being enthusiastic and trying to encourage. I'll also be very competitive as I'm cutting right now and have another 1-3 kg that I want to lose & my passion might come across in a bad way. I'll have to try to keep quite as much as possible.

I lost 33 kg and maintained most of that loss for 3 years now.

It reminds me of the American tv show the office when they had a weight loss challenge haha how funny.

Oh and I wonder how she will police all the *kitten* that people bring in to share, lol! The other day as a kinda last supper boss bought in chocolates and was handing them out to everyone. Omg.

Anyone have any work weight loss challenge stories they want to share!?

I'm 42 and my metabolic age was tested at 26  Most people in my office got a metabolic age over their biological age. Some in their early 20's had metabolic ages in their 50's, it's quite sad. One 60 year old guy who is like 50 kg overweight was on holidays I'm frightened to think what his body fat % & metabolic age was, maybe 90.

Being overweight or obese is the new norm in Australia that's for sure & I'm the odd one out.

I was the talk of the office. They all kept raving about me. lol

We're doing one right now. I feel like I was able to get a head start because I have been losing an average of 9-10lbs per month since August last year. I already have gone through the habit forming and calorie control.

And I admit I'm a little bit of a humble-brag. I like to share my accomplishments, I'm proud of myself. I hope it encourages people who are as heavy or heavier than I was.

A friend I know lost 70 lbs or so, on a work weight loss challenge. He said after the first month it was just habit to avoid snacking, and drinking soda. He also started walking to work. That was 6 years ago, and he is still pretty slim.

Wait what? Yes it is true that the elderly, immune compromised, children and obese can have more/worse complications from the flu than the average healthy person, weight has nothing to do with how likely you are to contract the virus. It just puts you more at risk for complications.

I only helped if people came to me. One guy was asking my advice and for tips & I was happy to help.

I suggested he write down all that he eats for a good 2 -3 weeks, weigh measure everything. And also to ensure he stick to his normal eating habits so then he can see what he can truly maintain on. Then take off 10-25% cut depending on how hungry he wanted to be/speed he wanted to lose at. He also wasn't sure about what his BMR reading of 1650 meant. He thought he had to eat under that to lose. I told him that is the amount that you would need when just sitting watching tv all day. That he needs to add around 100-150 calories for NEAT activity and he walks too so I said add another 100 or so for that. I said I thought he could do well losing on aroun 2000 or even 2100 and that it would be better to start at a higher amount to see if he has success first. The all important first step is working out what his tdee is keeping a food diary.

You didn't tell him about MFP? I don't 'help' unless asked as well. I'm more of a testimony. I want to be an inspiration. I've been here long enough that people have seen me be 262, and now that I am down to almost 210lb (not recorded yet) I do talk to the people who ask what I do. Many times there is the "I need to do more/eat less" but I don't think it's anything more than wishful thinking to many people who have noticed my significant weightloss.
