Hi everyone,

I have PCOS which was diagnosed last November. As me & my husband were hoping to get pregnant I was gutted when I was told. Since then I've been trying to follow a low gi diet but am finding it very difficult to cut out sugars. I've eliminated white bread, pasta, potatoes etc but I've always had a sweet tooth and finding this difficult to overcome.

So, I'm not overweight but the main thing for me is that my cycle is almost non existent. I've been trying acupuncture and the lady specialises in fertility, she's advised my fats and proteins are my friends and carbs and sugars are my enemy..... I'm also waiting for my appointment at the fertility clinic but had to wait a while unfortunately.

Just wondering if anyone out there is going through the same as would be good to hear as at the moment I just don't feel myself.....

Thanks everyone

Well I have pcos and I am here to tell you it does not mean you won't have children! I have 3. I was diagnosed years ago probably 7 years. I have not stuck to a particular diet since. But I do know exercise helps get your period back. I don't take any meds. Since learning diet can affect my pcos I have tried the primal blueprint which was helpful but still I did not fully understand the nutrition aspect. Ketogenic or low carb diets are usually recommend for pcos bc it is extremely hard for us to lose weight and I really don't know the scientific reasoning behind it to explain. It is good to avoid estrogen foods like if you are vegetarian to avoid tofu soymilk and processed veg foods and somethings like that I hace some frinds on my list who are much more knowledgeable and there used to be a pcos thread and group.

it may be good to try avoiding processed foods and go for whole foods and veg. Avoid certain complex carbs but other carbs are good like those in fruit and veggies but avoid ones like cereals and pastas and sweets. Go for a higher cocoa like 60% cocoa in chocolate or dark chocolate. A sweet craving may mean you have a yeast overgrowth or candida problem as I have had this too from eating way too many sweets it messes up your system.

So I am now trying a carb cycling bc I found it too hard to give up all carbs forever but it is helping me to understand what are simple and complex and starchy carbs how fats and protein should be portioned. It is called choose more loose more for life by Chris powell. Alot of pcosers do this type diet I have found. There is a pcos website called cysters or something like that that is helpful too.

If you want to add me I am willing to share more personal info if you are interested. Good luck!
