P90X/ResistanceTraining pre breakfast?

I asked this on the Fitness Forum but thought this might be a better place...

I'm starting P90X tomorrow and trying to change from being a cardio junkie! I've completed a couple of the sessions this week (Legs & Back/Shoulders & Arms) and find them challenging but manageable...

So my normal exercise regime is steady cardio on rising (45-60) minutes and my main cardio is performed early evening (Insanity/T25). I can't do intense cardio early morning as my body just doesn't feel up to the crazy jumping and speed. I do think I could work hard at P90X though and it would suit to sometimes perform them when I get up but before I have breakfast.

Any thoughts as to whether I should try and eat something prior to a morning session of P90X? I never really like eating until I've been up a while and had a cuppa or two!

    what are your goals?

    lose fat, build muscle, etc?

Also, P90X is considered a cardio program that utilizes weight training…just an FYI ..

as for eating prior to your training…I would say do what feels best to you. If you feel like your training is suffering and you are hungry then eat something…

for me personally i do not like to have ate anything at least two hours prior to training as I feel like training on a full stomach slows me down …but that is just my personal preference and is not based on any science….

I hear what you say about P90X and feel it's a gentle introduction for me to more specific weight training. Having dumbbells in my hands for more than 10 minutes is unheard of!

Current goal is a small amount of fat loss which I'm finally getting through a deficit with the help of Steve Troutman in his 1, 2, 3 questions thread. So looking to shift another 4lbs or so and reduce some of the fat which has appeared around my middle since I hit my late 40's/menopause.

I'm pretty strong and always try to do bodyweight exercises within my cardio and/or press ups sets. I've also known for as long as that I SHOULD be doing more resistance training but love cardio and pushing to my limits there but always struggle with doing the same with weights. Hence P90X being a good start as I respond well to having someone set the session that I have to complete...

if you like P90X and it works for you then go for it..

do you have access to a gym? When you finish up this round of p90x you might want to consider a lifting program along the lines of strong lifts, starting strength, or new rules of lifting for woman ..

I have my own "gym" as such. Treadmill, turbo, stairclimber (did I mention my cardio addiction?!) but also a bench and 4 sets of dumbbells with plates. No bar though but that could be invested in. Thanks - I'll check those out and think I looked at the 5x5 (Stronglifts?) before but as ever didn't commit!
