Hello my fitness pals,

ASL? HAHA I'm kidding, this isn't 1999 anymore. How do I start this intro then?

Well, I've been using MFP for 3 full days now, and it's been a real eye opener for me. I generally keep a healthy and relatively "clean" diet, but have decided that the 20 pounds I've put on in the last 2-3 years after college has got to go. My real issue isn't necessarily what I eat but how much I snack!

Being honest about my portions and seeing how fast the calories add up is a real shocker. I'm willing to bet this is a pretty common reaction, but man what a bummer... I made these awesome almond flour + coconut flake + chocolate chip cookies tonight and knowing I should really only have one is just a total buzzkill. Sticking true to the game I only had one, and let me tell you I chewed slowly and savored every bite. Small victories, my friends.

Good luck to all you champs out there, we're in this together and I'm proud of all of you diving into this and getting serious about your health!

I found out just because it has healthy ingredients doesnt mean it is good for you.....lol I made some awesome granola bars, but the calories, fat and carbs kill my daily goal if I eat more than one a day. Really it is the same with any type of sweet I try to make, so now I just try and stick with fruit because eating just one of the sweets makes me want another. I use a very small divider plate and try to weigh and measure everything. Because I have pretty much cut out bread, etc I stay pretty full and dont have much of problem wanting extra.

I think a divider plate is a great idea. I've been using a much smaller plate for my meals so I don't load up my plate just to see it full. I've also been weighing things, it's been helpful to get accurate serving sizes :) I've been seriously decreasing my breads and pasta intake as well. Getting a spiralizer to make zucchini noodles has been an awesome swap.

I bought the spiralizer last summer...great gadget. I grow my own Zucchini and love to make the noodles. Also spaghetti squash and also Shirataki noodles make great pasta substitutes. I am only allowed 110 carbs a day so i have learned to improvise..lol

Dang, you weren't kidding that IS a little plate! I can definitely see how that helps though. Having just a little serving of mac and cheese helps keep it from snowballing into a huge craving haha and being able to visualize a healthy serving like that keeps you in check. I think I'll have to browse Amazon for a little plate for myself!

I feel ya girl. I do.
but lemme tell ya...if you think it's tough now,
WAIT 'till you get older, and your metabolism gets slower...and slower.
It *will* catch-up, so good on ya for starting better habits, now.

Oh I know, I feel like it's going to be a disaster when I'm older if I don't pull myself together now while I supposedly have a higher metabolism.
