last Monday, I started The 21 day fix workout DVDs (mix of cardio, strength training - 30 min a day)... I hadn't been doing any workout previously since early January. I admit I didn't really change my eating habits as much but I did begin to log everything which definitely made me rethink a cookie or two.. I was 163lbs on Monday when I started and today I weighed in at 167.8 lbs!!!! I was not gaining weight at all before and now almost 5 lbs in 7 days???? Please tell me this is some weird water weight thing and that it'll drop soon???

It's a not-weird water weight thing. Any time you start a new routine or increase your exercise, your muscles hold on to additional water to repair the new tears. Additionally, could you be nearing TOM? That also equals water weight gain for women.

are you eating in a calorie deficit? Weighing all your solid foods with a food scale?

I also agree with the poster who mentioned water retention. However, if you are not eating in a calorie deficit you cannot out train a calorie surplus….

Weight loss is totally about your calories in and calories out. I would tell you to focus on your food instead of exercise if your goals are to lose weight.

A lot of time, when you start a new fitness program, your body will hold onto water as a stress response. Ride it out, and it should come back off. Also, nutrition is a big part of weight loss. Set appropriate calorie and macro goals and you'll do great.
