Why does working out give some people a squarer jaw? Am I imagining it?

Some people seem to gain squarer jaws and generally well-developed facial muscles as they become fitter, yet they're not exercising their face in particular. It seems to be more than fat loss for some. Why is this? Am I imagining it?

If you're talking about men in the weight room, it's because of steroids. Otherwise it's probably just fat loss exposing the muscles and jawline.0

as the face leans out the double chin gives to a tight adams apple. This raises the horizontal line of the jaw flatten out.0

When you lose fat, you lose it all over including your face. I suspect this is what you are noticing. It's kind of sad as my face looks better/younger when I'm a little chubby.0

Funny - I was going to say steroids...
I've known a few guys that have abused steroids - I've noticed that they always get this same "look" in their facial features, and it seems like their skin always has a reddish tint too - like they always have a slight sunburn... I don't quite understand the appeal personally.0 -
This is so hilarious. Never noticed before. probably gonna be staring at jawlines now lol

I think it depends on what they're using. I dated a guy who was doing something that made his face so puffy like chipmunk cheeks. My ex's girlfriend looks like she did the same thing before the Mid-Atlantic show in October. She was unrecognizable at the time, but looks ok now, just like the skin in her face is a bit droopy like when people lose a lot of weight really fast & have loose skin.
The ex's face is pretty rosy so yeah...I can see that.0
