Guideline Daily Allowance?

Hey everyone I am just wondering what the GDA is for men and women?

I always thought it was:
2000kcal for women
2200kcal for men
and 1500 for children?

Is this completely wrong? I have been arguing with my mum :/

Hi there, It's actually a little more complicated than that since people vary so much in height and their activity level. Here is a neat little tool from the Mayo Clinic. It lets you calculate your needs based on age/height/activity level/gender to get a better picture of daily caloric needs: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/calorie-calculator/NU00598

    Hope that helps!

Here's one that is not metric from active.com: http://www.active.com/fitness/calculators/calories
I get confused on the metric conversions and that one is in inches and pounds

I'll second Araminta13 for solidarity. It varies, especially with the differences in height. My maintenance is around 1800, but that's because I'm only 5'1'' - below average height for an American woman. Those calorie recommendations are generally for the "average" person with an "average" activity level, so you have to adjust accordingly.
