I'm a start Monday kind of person. I planned to start watching what I ate and exercising more at the beginning of this year so I made the last few weeks of January really count.

I used to always be a 'monday' type of person, but I actually decided to randomly start on new years eve this year, I was going to wait till January 1st, but was like, why wait?

    Right now :)

I started on a Wednesday last year.
  • I'm a "Start Monday" type of person, but it seems that when I stepped out of my comfort zone and started my Healthy Lifestyle change "NOW" I was the most successful.

In the past when I planned and planned, I fell off after a few short time and gained the weight back and then some.

Now, I'm coming up on 1 year since I took the "Start Now" approach and I'm still at it!

What is everyones opinions and views on this..
Would you rather start a diet IMMEDIATELY or think it's better to start at the start of a new week, like a Monday.

    Thanks :)

Realizing it's not a diet and it's a complete lifestyle change type of person.

People who wait for Monday never get anything done.

I've come to the realization that there is no start over because life is a continuum. There is no point in life where you can wipe out everything that came before and start fresh. I live in the body I have today because of choices I made in the past. Choices I'm making now will give me the body I live with in the future. I'm making better choices.

It was years ago now that I decided to lose weight and start getting fitter, and I remember deciding to start the next day, which was a Saturday, because a) I knew the swimming pool opened at 9am so I'd go then, and b) my family had agreed to get fish and chips for dinner and I KNEW I wasn't going to turn that down, so might as well put a dent in the calorie overload by exercising and eating well the rest of the day!

I've always been someone who struggles to get started with new things, so I knew I had to act immediately or I'd lose momentum. Once I've set my mind to it and physically started, I normally keep going until the job is done.

Hmm, I usually starts on Monday but I should really have an attitude of start "NOW" tomorrow or Monday shouldn't make a difference. But for data collection, I start always from the beginning if I can help it.

I did not start this year out planning to lose weight. I actually started on Friday, January 2nd. I know it looks kind of like I was a resolutionist, but I honestly didn't have any resolutions this year except to "Be happy."

I used to be a Monday or a 1st of month type person. I found out that for me, it never worked. Monday never came, or I'd screw up and say "Well I'll just start next week/month/etc." That's just the kind of procrastinator I am lol.

Honestly, I feel that for me "I'll start on Monday" is a bit of a cop-out. If you're serious, start now as it should be a lifestyle change and not a 'diet'. You see a lot of people with the 'I'll start tomorrow/Monday/ next month/January 1st' see it as license to have a last hurrah and overeat until then, since they'll be starting fresh on Monday. Some people lose resolve towards the end of the week and do this every week and get nowhere! Ok I've totally done this myself, but have found much greater success since I realised that if I really want this it has to be a NOW thing. If I screw up I have to forgive myself and move on, starting now.

This is what I think as well.

As a poster on one of the success stories said, don't start tomorrow. I spent X years (I don't remember how many years he said) starting tomorrow. Start today.

I think I've changed from a start on Monday type person. It helps when I just say "start right now" to get back on track after a bad day.

I was always "i'll start on monday" but this time I got back on track after the new year! I do like to plan though, so I always plan ahead and make sure there is lots of nutritious food in the house etc. Now i'm in a routine and completely organised I will never have to "start" ever again. This is my lifestyle now.

You can spend YEARS "starting on Monday" or "starting tomorrow". Just binged? Cool. Log it, adjust your calories, do better starting NOW.

I'm a start now person, but my husband is a start Monday person. So he wants to plan and get himself mentally ready to start (as well as binge on his favourites on the weekend to get it out of his system), which is usually counter to what I want to do because I want to start now. But yes, yes one last bag of chips would be so good. Just this weekend. Then Monday we'll both start better.

    Rinse. Repeat.

I've been eating this way for way too long for that to be an issue, but back before then, I was always a "start right now" person, which ultimately sabotaged myself. It's hard to be a start right now when the healthiest thing in the house is leftover pizza.

Don't. Don't start a diet. Start a lifestyle change. Diets are about fixing a "problem" - excess weight in this case - and as soon as it is "fixed", we tend to move on back to our old habits. So don't diet. Change how you eat and how you move in a way that you like so you can keep it up forever!

If you are eating at a deficit to lose weight, then you are dieting.

I hate the whole "one last day before the diet" thing so I think it's best to start right away. I started on a Friday myself.

I used to be a "Start Monday" kind of guy. I must have started on dozens of Mondays and it never took. That mythical Monday where I would be serious about getting in shape was always just out there somewhere. Finally something happened and I took a stand and just went for it. Now its been a year and I'm down over 100lbs and still going strong. If you look at my quote on my Profile page, this is what it says. "Monday Finally Came"

Years ago I would have been a Monday starter. Now I just go for it. I always have to tell myself that when I know I need to start counting calories again. Once in a while I just get tired of it. Guess that is why I haven't loss any weight. Now I just do it without thinking. Go right in.

Well, if we are going to get super technical about the word, then diet is actually the sum of food consumed by an organism - ANY sum of food (Wikipedia). Your diet may cause you to gain weight, lose weight, or remain at the same weight. Similarly, "dieting" technically is a term for supervised, regulated food intake, and its goal can be to lose, maintain or even gain weight.

But clearly, I wasn't using the term clinically.

I was simply saying that the reason "dieting" often doesn't work is because people see it as a means to an end rather than a lifestyle, hence once that end is achieved, they cease their new habits and go back to the old normal. And "starting a diet" has that kind of connotation, at least when I hear it.

I'm totally start on Monday type of person. Then I plan the whole month out hoping to stay on track.

Yep, that's me too. I feel like I need to plan it all out if I have any hope of success...

"Start Monday" means "start never". If you want to do something, the only way to do it is to just start.
