I find I stall for months and months on end, almost a half a year sometimes but then all of a sudden i'll drop 10lbs in a month. no changes in anything. I always eat below my calories, some days i'm more active so i eat about 1500-1600. days i'm not active i eat about 1300. it's all according to my fitbit.

Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Maybe you are more honest with yourself during the month that you lose 10lbs?

Its called the whoosh effect. It has to do with carbs and alternately cycling calories or having a cheat meal or beer night some people lose lik 5 lbs or other stuff. I read some about it.

No, not any of that. I believe that you read it, because it sounds just like the BS that the "diet industry" peddles, but it's really not scientifically sound.

OP, are you logging, measuring your food, etc for all of that time? I think the pattern you are talking about is something I'd expect to shape over weeks, but not months. (So, stagnation or even gains for a couple of weeks, then woosh....happens to me every month due to consistent caloric deficit+water retention cycles)

hmm you guys might be right about the strict thing now that i think about it.
it's always hard to admit when you're the reason it's not working :(
stress does seem to get the best of me during some months but i do always try to log and stay within my limit.
