No because it would never work. I also don't tell myself spaghetti squash and sauce tastes just like pasta and sauce. I just like it for what it is.

Yesterday, I had a bacon cheeseburger for lunch because that's what I wanted. I continued the rest of the day eating much lighter....a very low cal supper, since my lunch was almost 700 calories, lol.

Lol! @Lizzy622‌, I wish I liked tuna! @wizzybeth‌, that's what I do, too, when I have a cheat meal. I ll try to only eat around 300 cals for supper.

@jkwolly‌, there's no fish out there that I love. I wish I did.

I didn't consider it a "cheat" meal. It was a regular meal...that was a little heavier in calories than my typical lunch.

As long as I stay within my daily calorie allotment, it is not a cheat, in my book. Anything is permissible. So...if I want a cheeseburger and not tuna, I have it...and don't try to fool myself into thinking it's what I really want. :)

Caaaan't do it. If I pretended, the next day would be a trip to McDonald's. If I fat up my tuna it is delicious all on it's own.
    Mediterranean Tuna Salad

If I were smart, I'd save my burger for a trip to Harvey's, open faced. Lot's of juicy burger loveliness.

I have a cheeseburger at least once a week - about 500 calories with plenty of cheese and no bun. Nom nom. (I don't eat fish.)

And if you don't like tuna...don't eat it. I will not make myself eat things I don't like. I don't like plain yogurt. So I don't eat it. I am not "cheating" by eating French Vanilla yogurt.

I have tricked myself into believing that Life Savers peppermints are terrible for you and should be eaten only sparingly ... I usually "sneak" three or four a day ... only about 60 calories total, fresh breath, happy body. :)

I eat it bc it's good for me. It's high in vitamin d and mine is low. I would rather get the vitamin d through healthier food choices. I have to force myself to eat healthy foods bc I don't like most of them. I want to lose weight the healthy way. @jkwolly @wizzybeth‌

@mllett, a faster way to increase your vitamin D stores might be an hour's walk in the sun every day.

@jgnatca‌ I definitely have to fatten mine up, too! I was really just joking. I really don't pretend, but I would choose a cheeseburger any day of the week over tuna.

I'm sure someone else will beat me to this, but however you choose to lose weight, try to make choices that will make you happy with your journey. If you miserable about forcing down certain foods, those feelings might translate over to the entire experience and may sabotage your weight loss plan. You don't want that ... choose things that make you proud of what you are doing for yourself - and that you can live with forever. Try some new foods maybe that are high in Vitamin D.

Other foods are high in vitamin D like oranges, cheese and eggs. Also you can take walks outside or even take a vitamin if you're that low (I do, since I live in a dark cold climate).

All food is food, cutting stuff out as healthy/not healthy is a bad mindset to get in and you should focus on moderation.

Once you loose the weight what happens....eating healthy is a lifestyle change and if you dont like something now... why would you like it a year from now. If you want a cheeseburger find healthier ways to fix it instead of going to Micky D or a restaurant. I can take lean ground beef and make my own. Or make a turkey burger.

If I want a cheeseburger I eat a cheeseburger. Just make it work for your calories for the day

Ha, I was just looking at a recipe for peanut butter bacon burgers because of another thread.

I plan on getting some Fuddruckers after my doctors appointment on monday.
Tuna is pretty great as well though.

I am losing weight the healthy way - I strive to meet my macros every single day by eating foods rich in nutrition that I enjoy eating. Some days I don't make all my macros (usually it's protein that I'm short on, or iron...). But most days, I do. So don't assume that because I am proposing eating things that are enjoyable that I am proposing not eating healthy.

I don't consider forcing myself to eat things I don't like to be a healthy eating plan.

I hate rutabaga, eggplant, kale, milk, lamb, and liver. All of which are "healthy" and good for me in one way or the other. I choose not to eat them because I hate them. I find other foods that will fill that nutritional role.

Now there are things I eat now that I "hated" as a child - such as mushrooms, green bell peppers, Italian sausage, potatoes, and pot roast. That's not because I forced myself to eat them but because as I grew older I learned my tastes shifted somewhat. I now love them all (except pot roast. It's still not a favorite but I don't hate it.)

If you don't like tuna there's no need to suffer eating what you don't like... there's plenty of other food to get your vitamin D, just Google it. And sunlight... like jgnatca said.

And whenever you want an actual cheeseburger, just make it fit into your daily calories.... no need to play pretend.

I don't do that but I have wonderful dreams about binge eating everything in sight... It's bad.

This is why, when I want a cheeseburger, I make it work into my day. I don't force myself to eat a cold salad when I want a hot juicy cheeseburger.

Because if you continue to deny, deny, deny...you will eventually binge. Some people can have a "binge" and get back on the wagon again fairly quickly, but many people don't. They then feel guilty and gross. And then they may get depressed and reach for more comfort foods. Then give in to the troll in their head saying "You can't do it. Just give it up. Enjoy your ice cream and cookies and cheeseburgers...you deserve it. You've worked so hard and for what?" blah blah blah blah. (I am speaking from EXPERIENCE...which is why I lost 40 lbs, then gained 80 back, lost 20 lbs then gained 25 back and here I am now, finally with a better viewpoint on food.)

The only sacrifice I make when I have something like that is to have a lighter meal afterward, or if I am planning on going out to dinner for supper, eating lighter during the day. I am going to an awards banquet in 2 weeks for work. In anticipation, I will be going to the gym before leaving for the dinner, and am also going to have an extremely light breakfast and lunch. I am going to be ready for my prime rib, mashed potatoes, hot bun with butter, cheesecake dessert, and maybe a cocktail or two. I may even go over my calories a bit that night so I will be taking that into consideration the day ahead as well.

I sure as heck wasn't going to choose the salad meal option and spend my time wishing it was prime rib. THAT is what makes a diet suck - eating crap you don't like, trying to pretend it's something else.

^^ and also what makes it a "diet" instead of real-life, sustainable changes for a healthier life. I sound like a cliche commercial for healthy living ... but it's true. "Diets" are for short-timers who will be back to do it again ...

No, I'm a big fan of cheeseburgers. I grill one up at home pretty much every week and I don't see anything inherently wrong with them. It's not like a good 6 ounce burger with 93% ground beef is some kind of huge calorie bomb or anything. If you're talking about fast food burgers...well, I don't really consider those burgers...I don't know what they are, but they aren't burgers...

I also enjoy a good tuna steak from time to time...I like mine very rare...like basically seared on each side and that's about it.

Tuna like cheeseburger? I don't think I'm gullible enough for that. Was it a tuna burger? I love tuna burgers.
