Sabotaging weight loss when close to goal

I am starting to see a clear pattern in what seems to be my perpetual quest to lose weight.
I start off really well and motivated, eat better, drink less alcohol as that's probably the main thing that kicks my *** and exercise in whatever way I'm feeling like at the time (exercise DVD, walking, bodyweight exercises etc)

BUT

When I get to within 14 pounds/7kg/a stone of my goal weight, I generally will get slack again, not even remotely on purpose, and eat more pizza, drink more beer (even though I've been fine just having clear spirits for months!) at the weekend, and stop exercising at all so it gradually goes back up.

Does anybody else do this? I don't feel it's a concious decision of mine. I wonder if it's because I'm not really accountable, nobody is pushing me to do it as they all seem happy with the way I am. It's not their responsibility though.
I've got a few people on here as friends, one is awesome and exercises all the time but I don't really get the same pleasure out of that so I'm not in the same boat and can't relate as much as it seems I need to to motivate me.

I wonder if there actually will be a time when that paunch I don't dig has gone. Will I have to count calories forever  Or! Am I just lazy?

tl;dr I ruin my own chances of losing the last bit of weight

I think I am the same way...Ultimately for me, it seems that all of a sudden the compliments start coming and then I get overly confident and less diligent about tracking. when everyone is telling you that you look great or "no way do you have another 20 lbs to lose", where's the motivation in that? Clearly we have to find our motivation within ourselves OR move somewhere (like Southern California) where everyone is much thinner and those last few pounds will really stand out!

I think you're right, as soon as I get compliments I'm like "that's enough, sweet, somebody else has noticed" and then like you say it just tails off.
I do get a lot of the "you're losing too much" and "you're too thin already" - pfff I've only just got out of the obese category still a good stone and a bit until I'm "normal" LOL
  • Hahaha!! Completely understand!! That's 110% me!!! I think we all want people to notice us in a way and when people notice us in a positive way we feel great and think well even though I'm not where I want to be, I obviously look better. So dw you're not alone !!

Good to hear I'm not alone, now to somehow break through the barrier and lose the rest!
