What seems more probable?

This last month I took a break from exercising, during this time my weight increased from 259 to 264/265 and stayed that way for most of the month. This last week I went to the gym and my weight dropped back down to 260. I do not think I lost 5 pounds, because I am doing the same thing I did before. But then again, I'm not sure if it can be considered water weight or fluctuations when it was constantly at 265/264 for an entire month. I had weighed myself on 2 scales, both of them were the same readings at both weights. What is the more probable thing that has happened here? My friend said maybe my body is finally using my fat reserves and maybe that's why I lost 5 pounds super quick, but that to seems like it might not be accurate. (I was on a plateau the month before my break) I normally lose 1-2 pounds a week also.

at a guess you've depleted your glycogen reserves with the exercise, glycogen is stored with quite a bit of water so I think most of your 5 lbs could be down to reduced water & glycogen.
To lose 5 lbs of fat in a week implies you burned 17,500 calories extra which is a bit unlikely.0 -
Is it common for people to have this weight for a month or more? Never had this problem before and I have been exercising since December!

I stall out all the time. I was stalled for the month of March while tracking and getting a ton of exercise; I was stalled for the month of May while not tracking, and "exercise" was mostly manual labor and playing in the pool. After a stall, the weight does often come off in chunks. Someone had a pseudoscientific explanation for the whoosh. I think it was that the fat cells bloat themselves with water, which they suddenly release when they give up the good fight.0
