Pistachios, almonds, mixed nuts. They are all perfectly fine for you just try to find brands that don't any extra crap.
The fats and oils in nuts are perfectly healthy for you as long as you stick to a serving.0 -
it used be thought that the raw nuts were healthier (I'm not sure if this is still the "trend"). MY personal problem with buying those "cocktail" cans is that i can eat my way through a whole can of those toasted/salted nuts. and THAT adds up to a lot of calories/fat.
So i buy the raw nuts, and i buy small amounts - this way, i can take a small handful once in a while. they are high in fat but it's healthy fat, and they are considered a good protein.0 -
nuts in general are ok aslong and dried fruits depending on how they are processed.
Almonds and Walnuts are meant to be the best of the best as far as Nuts go. Thats what i chow on
THen you have all different types of seeds.
Salt is no good for weight loss tho. Sure you need some and aslong as your total daily sodium intake isn't higher then what MFP suggests you should be OK but better to get unsalted nuts.
Toasted or Untoasted doesn't make much difference other then taste.
and i concur with the poster above me, stick to 2oz's a day at most cause they are calorie dense for there size and why thats not an issue in itself it all adds up
What i do each day usually 30mins b4 my workouts is have 1oz of Almonds in this case and 1-2oz of dried apricots or seedless grapes. Thats a mini meal in itself and gives you that burst of energy and protein/carbs.0 -
Yeah I have nuts but not salted ones (salted peanuts etc). Dont think you need many though. You can get packs here with nuts, seeds and raisins in which are nice0

I love using nuts to get some extra protein. Perfectly fine, provided they are raw (salted is fine as long as you're not going over your salt intake from everything else you're eating; otherwise, stick to raw. They don't really need salt anyhow). As long as you keep up with your calories and macros, they won't present any problems for you.0

Nuts are a brilliant healthy fat source. However, fat has over double the calories of carbs and protein, so if you are trying to stay in a caloric deficit to lose weight make sure you are keeping track of the quantity of nuts you are consuming so that you don't go over your calories. I'd say have nuts without salt, and avoid salt as much as possible, as it is not only unhealthy but it will retain water which will increase your weight.0

I eat mostly raw nuts, almonds and walnuts mostly, sometimes pistachios, sometimes lightly salted dry roasted peanuts. They are good for you, but pay attention to serving sizes as they are high in calories. A serving size is usually 1/4 cup.0
