Help, advice on treadmills needed urgently

Hi all
OK let's get the Big Issue out of the way first. I run out door, I love it. I will run in all weathers. So please don't tell me I don't need a treadmill. My wife is losing weight on here with me. This is great but she will not go out in public to exercise. No way, never full stop. She needs the exercise, she is doing some body weight moves and uses dumbbells but needs the cardio as well. I am going to get her a treadmill as the next step but I need advice on make and model.
Have any of you out there bought a treadmill recently and can let me know good makes, models to look at. Also any nightmares to avoid. I will be buying in the UK but hopefully there is a crossover with the US.

not sure of make models these days.. however i know what i looked for were also some options that they have one that is great is where you can just hit one button to go from slight jog say to a full out run instead of having to keep clicking to go faster. also width and length of the belt are super helpful for strides.

I don't use my treadmill too much anymore (the kids do when the weather is bad) but I've got a Pacemaster Silver that has to be at least 7 or 8 years old and, even with daily use earlier on, has operated flawlessly.

I understand Pacemaster sells in the UK and I think the current version of my treadmill is the "silver select". They're not the cheapest on the market (not the most expensive) - I had a less robust model before that was scrap in about 5 years.......
  • Hi, I'm in Scotland and recently bought a treadmill. It's the NordicTrack T15, and I bought it here - http://www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/nordictrack-t15-0-treadmill.php. I initially had a problem with the walking belt not sitting quite straight on the platform so had an engineer come out to check it. Apparently it's a common problem but causes no additional wear to the belt so it's okay to use. I have to say it took 2 of us 4 hours to put together (a workout in itself!) but they do offer a delivery and installation service if you don't fancy that.

The machine itself is awesome; it does everything the ones at my gym do and more besides (more programmes, iPod compatible, in-built fan etc.) and it sturdy and robust. My partner is twice my weight and it suits us both equally. It folds up, not completely flat but enough to put it out of the way, and the hydraulic system makes it soooo easy to put up and down. This is a good video showing it in action http://youtu.be/Ue5-INPd_kk. It also comes with a free iFit system, which I've not used yet but looks like it could be good - you can see it here - http://youtu.be/n7KNHIjDdGY.

All in all, a good investment I think! Good luck

Hi thanks for that, I wouldn't be able to get engineers to come out to help me as, even though I am buying the treadmill in the UK I am taking it out to our holiday place in France for the summer, but I will have a look at this machine on line.

Not sure whether this helps at all, but I bought a reebok i-run second hand off ebay. And it was great, very sturdy but I stopped using it and re-sold it. Then a couple months ago I thought I'd give it another shot, as like your wife I'm not to keen on exercising in public! :) And bought a reebok Ice treadmill off ebay again, and I have to say I think this one is better than the I-run. It has a slightly wider running board and has incline which is easier on the joints. I'm loving it, and it was in very good condition, most treadmills on ebay are in good condition because they get left and used as an additional clothes horse :P and for a beginner I'd say second hand is probably a good idea just to see how they get on with it. :)

Money isn't a huge issue but I wouldn't want to spend a fortune.
