I guess what I am wondering is if anyone has done anything similar and did it work. I hung it on my closet door right next to my full length mirror. I even tried it on . I didn't get a size that was completely un reasonable either. I havent worn a bikini in over ten years and iam only 28.

My husband found a bikini he thought I would love (he knows I want to be in one this summer) he got it for me and told me "I'm doing great and he knows come summer I will be hot in it if I don't give up" I thought it was awesome of him!0

I bought a dress in a size I want to be.... I want to fit it by my 31st birthday in August...I have lost 30lbs since November 2014....I have hit a plateau over the past 2 weeks....I don't think its unreasonable to do that...but I just need another body JumpStart to loose more.0

I put it where I have to look at it everyday. Fitting in it is one of my biggest goals! The other is to do an endurance challenge of some kind. Like right now im looking into the dirty dash.0

I don't think it's a bad idea at all! There are these ($200) jeans that I will NOT buy until I'm happy with my size. They are my goal jeans. I haven't actually bought them because holy price, but if they were cheaper, I would have.
I'm wearing them in my profile pic - in a size 8 (my YES size is a 6), and I started this at a size 20 - so close!0 -
It depends on you.
I once bought a dress that I thought was gorgeous but was too small as I was then probably about 25 lbs overweight.. It was my "pre pregnancy" size. I thought it would motivate me so I kept it. 20 years later it is horribly out of date and I am way more huge now than when I bought it. Fortunately it was on clearance and I got it for only $20. I finally had to get rid of it because even when I get to goal there is no way I'd wear it. Lol
So it'll it's a good motivation tool for YOU. ...then it's not a mistake. For me...it just wasn't enough to inspire me. Lol0 -
If it works for you then go for it If it helps give you a little boost then it's not wrong.
(I have never worn a bikini. Just the thought gives me heart palpitations. But I also rarely--as in maybe every other year--go somewhere that I need a bathing suit.)0 -
If it motivates you and makes you smile thinking of it, I think it works. It depends on the person whether a smaller size helps them or not. Usually, the only time people run into trouble is when they set a deadline for fitting into it but don't make it (often for reasons out of their control). If you are setting that as your goal, and there is no way to fail except to stop, go you!0

We have a girls trip in the summer where we float down the saco river (maine) in tubes . It takes all day and is a blast but alot of people do it sooo I see all the bikinis every where and I am wearing a one piece with a skirt blahh.0 -
Personally, I wouldn't, because I know even when I'm a size/weight I'm happy with, I have to try on a zillion different styles and sizes to find one that I like, whether it's jeans, a dress or a swimsuit. Hell, there's been times I went to a store wearing a pair of jeans that fit perfectly, and tried on the exact same brand, size and style, and had them fit differently.0

I thought about that but I figured if I get to the size but dont like the bikini. I could buy a different one.

If that motivates you..then you did the right thing! and I will be watching the "success" pages to see you in that bikini!
(Last year, I bought my 1st 2 piece suit (the bottom looks like a short skirt, still not comfy enough for a full-on bikini!) in 40 years for me!)0 -
i recently bought a dress for my brother in laws wedding that just barely zipped. but it was the last one and i loved it and figured i WILL fit it by wedding time!0

I think its a great idea! I have a pair of really expensive jeans that I bought before I gained my freshman *cough cough 50* three years ago and I look at them for motivation for what I wanna be at again! Keep going! You can do it!0

I think it's a great idea, i'm 28 and have never worn a bikini either, until the last summer, but it was a high waisted one so I don't feel like it counts, i'm going for it this summer, i'm determined to be at my ultimate goal weight and to rock a traditional two piece.

If it helps you, then it's cool! I personally have made a choice to buy myself some nice clothes lately (modcloth junkie here), instead of cheaper stuff. The way I figure it is, instead of buying all new stuff when I lose, I can take the stuff that I already love to a tailor and get it altered to my new measurements! I did keep one dress that is too small, because I bought it on clearance and I can't return it. It's not even that small, it will probably be too big when I hit my goal.0

That's EXACTLY what I'm thinking. For me it wouldn't work because no matter what size I am I have to try on anything I buy to make sure the fitting of the size looks good.
If it is a positive motivator for you that's great! But, if you're making progress and that doesn't end up looking the way you've envisioned yourself don't get down, be proud of your progress and find something else that makes you feel good.0 -
I did the same thing a few years ago. I was just getting into the groove with my weight loss and I was so motivated to keep going. I came across this cute string bikini in a size I wore in undergrad.
It was on clearance and very inexpensive so I bought it. Not so much to be able to wear it, but to help track my progress (I went by my measurements more than scale weight).
During challenging times I would place it on a hanger and hang it in my room where I could see it to serve as a reminder to keep my eye on the prize.
It was amazing to see year after year I was getting closer and closer to be able to fit into it. I saw my back fat, love handles etc. slowly disappear and I could see myself more physically fit.
Fast forward to a couple months ago I tried it on and it was too big!
Doing this may not be for everyone, but it helped me. It has been an amazing experience to remember how I looked and felt when I first bought it compared to now. Especially since I have never been able to wear a bikini in my life. I only wish I took pics.

I think it can be a great motivator.
I will offer some of my own results from trying that. One dress I bought because I loved it and though I wasn't too far from fitting after losing weight it would have needed to be altered to me fit me because I lost so much more at the top than the bottom (this dress was on sale but not a great sale). My second dress was one I bought for a party and the same thing happened, while I thought there was no way I would lose more on the top - it happened.
Keep the bikini and try it on periodically but do not be discouraged if at a point along the way it just doesn't work for you. Sometimes our bodies change and dictate a need for style changes.0 -

No. Doing that depresses me.0
