''Don't reward yourself with junk food. You're not a dog''. Eat well! ☺️
You can do it guys! This quote made me eat strawberries with nuts and seeds instead of that cheesecake in the fridge. Feel better for it!
I often eat high calorie foods whenever I feel emotional or low and a lot of the time I can't stop. So not meaning any offence to anyone with this post.
Obviously you can eat anything you want while sticking to a well balanced diet.

I'm having two servings of ice cream tonight because it fits into my calories. It's not a reward, it's just how I eat.
And still not a dog.0 -
2/10, will not be back0
-
No thanks. The 70 pounds I've lost so far tells me it's not necessary.
Also not a dog.0 -
I'll say no to your face.0
-
I eat whatever I like - just less of it.
<---- and I'm a cat!0 -
I had a cupcake for breakfast.
Look, people should definitely be filling out most of their calories with nutrient-dense foods. They should pay some attention to their macros and micros. And obviously with a reduced calorie goal it's harder to fit the high-calorie/lower - nutrition foods in. But no one has to cut them completely unless they want to or need to for medical reasons.
tl; dr version: I do what I want.0 -
lol ok thanks OP.
you do you and i'll do wendy's.0 -
no thanks OP, I will keep fitting in my ice cream and cheesecake and losing weight at the same time..

Sorry guys for not being so clear. I didn't mean to say no altogether.
I think for me at this moment in time, saying no to junk food is such a big thing because i am an emotional eater and I will eat junk food all day long even if I am full. Obviously in moderation having such things can be okay. So definitely, if you have a balanced diet then it's okay to have these things. But I will eat junk all day long which is why I uploaded such a hard nut quote for others in my position.
I have to say No to limit myself and finding substitutes at this moment in time allows me to build up that mental strength to help motivate myself and to also make me realise I can eat clean and still find the same satisfaction, if not better.
If you guys have any great ideas to help people who are emotional eaters, I would love to hear it. Xx

Cheesecake is full of fat filling fats, what's 'junk' about it?
And I have nothing to reward myself for. I just like eating some things, and they fit in my calories.0 -

Getting my permanent residency renewed is well worth the cream puff I ate to celebrate. I have no problems using food as a reward. Just because you do, doesn't mean everyone does. I'm allergic to penicillin, but I don't go around telling people to stop using it.

Get professional help as to "why" you choose food as a coping mechanism. You're not the first nor will you be the last person to get help for it. My coping mechanism had been alcohol..........
That in my opinion will help you the best.

stop viewing food as "bad" "junk" "good" etc...food does not have a value, it is just energy that you use to fuel your body.
when you stop viewing food as "bad" or "junk" then you will not feel bad when you indulge in certain things. Just make sure to hit your calorie/micro/macro goal for the day.
OR
if you really have an issue, just keep said foods out of the house...however, I think you will have better long term sustainable results if you learn to moderate your intake and not assign values to food.0 -

Hmm.. I never really thought about it like that. Great point. Thanks.0 -
Do dogs eat 'junk' food? Wonder if there's a canine equivalent of Mcdonalds....
I made the most yummy cheesecake for my husband's birthday last year, a peanut butter one. I wouldn't say it was junk, although it had far too many calories in it to eat regularly!
If you're an emotional eater I suppose you need to figure out what sets you off, and make sure you have small portions of whatever you like in your house then you can't overeat.
I'm pretty careful with what I eat most of the time, but I like a treat now and again.0 -
My dogs eat very well and are not rewarded with junk

Glad to see this. It's fine to have an occasional treat, but it's all about making sure you surround yourself with good wholesome foods. The less processing steps a food has - the harder it is to store it as fat.
You hit on one already - if you crave something sweet, grab some fruit! 1 cup of fruit is plenty for a snack - or dessert - if you are trying to lose weight. Fruit contains fiber and fructose - and the fiber eliminates the ability of fructose to store in the liver. It's the only food in the world with fructose in it that can do that.
Make time your friend - whatever you cannot eliminate today, you can always eliminate tomorrow! Good luck!0 -

I was gonna be like everyone and say "Uhm...Heck no." until I read your second post..
I was a binge eater for a long time. I can't say I'm completely cured because sometimes there are instances where I can tell I just feel like eating a lot of food.
What has helped me to get my issues under control a bit is similar to what ndj1979 wrote. I don't consider anything a "bad" food and I don't restrict anything. I also try really hard not to beat myself up when I have a day where I eat more than I should. This whole weight loss journey is a huge learning experience. Focus more on positive thinking, and moderation. That is what is key. What I've seen on the forums a couple times is this: Self control is like a muscle, the more you use it, the stronger it gets. It also is a "One day at a time" kind of thing.
Good luck!

Seriously. Bookmarking next time someone says those of us who don't like the use of the word junk are just bullies or braggarts.0 -
no way. I get the nutrients I need from good food. then I finish up my day with supposed "junk" because I like it and I need the calories. when I run over 20k in a day (which happens often) I won't be able to maintain my weight on strawberries0

I'll think of you while I'm stuffing my face with a huge grilled cheese, a plate of fries and a beer tonight. Seriously, if it fits, eat it.0

Hey, this I can totally relate to. One thing that really helped me (and I realize this is one of those cliches that's easier to say than it is to do) was realizing that I was in control of my food and my food wasn't in control of me.
What do I mean by that? Well, let's take my breakfast today. It was straight up a store-bought cupcake and coffee. Why? Because I had leftover cupcakes in the house and I wanted it more than the other options. When I started dieting, this would have thrown me off diet for the rest of the day. That's it! I've blown it! I'll never lose weight! Might as well have cupcakes and ice cream for the rest of my life! Today, I had Greek yogurt and a tuna sandwich for lunch, because I'm going to be low on protein with the cupcake breakfast. Learning that I can fit those kinds of "bad meals" into my day and still lose the weight really gave me more control over my food. I still watch my nutrients, but I know how to balance things better than I used to.

I'm a binge eater. There are some foods I just had no control around. I stopped buying them, and kept them out of the house. After a while of restricting them, I slowly reintroduced them into my diet (a small bag of chips as a side to a lunch out or a single 3oz serving of gelato when out with friends). Once I got used to an actual serving size, I was much better at keeping it in the house and having a single serving (or two if it fits into my daily goal).
I've recently been having huge binging issues, but it has nothing to do with the types of food I keep in my house. I've increase my calories and am now at a slight deficit (300 calories a day); I may even increase up to maintenance if I still have problems with binging. I'm hoping that the higher calories will help with feeling hungry, and then I can actually address the mental side of the binges.
I'm hoping at least part of the problem is that the 800-1000 calorie defecit per day was driving extreme hunger. (Essentially, I'm hoping just raising the calorie goal works.) I'd rather lose slowly then, lose fast one week, binge like crazy, feel horrible (both my stomach from over eating and emotionally for being a complete failure), and then have the scale not move or jump up.0
