Hi
Just wondering does anyone know does squatting with weights contribute to building calf muscles?
I'm trying to work on slimming down calves as much as possible but I do have naturally chunkier calves (thanks mom) so I don't want to add any bulk to them

If it did, there'd be a lot more happy bodybuilders in the world.

There's a video online from a fitness guru saying it does ?

Assuming you start from a base of bedridden, yes, everything you do that involves moving your legs will build bigger calves. But no, it's not going to make any significant difference if you already have some muscles. Walking will build bigger calves than squatting does.

You can find "fitness gurus" online who say just about anything.

When I squat I feel it more in my glutes and quads than I do in my calves. I'm sure I'm using my calves as part of the squat but that's not where the main focus is. I doubt your calf size will increase from squats.

Calves are nearly impossible to grow, and require direct volume training. Squats may make them marginally stronger since htey use them to stabilize the leg. But. Unless you are doing weighted jump squats: No.
