Weight training/gym advice

I started on MFP in January and have lost 20lbs. I currently weigh 163lbs. I want to lose some more weight but also improve my fitness, tone up and just generally be more healthy.

My main exercise is walking, but I was thinking about joining a gym to use the Elliptical Trainer and possible start some weight training? I noticed people talking about weight training really helping them.

I guess I'm really just looking for someone to tell me what I should do.

Any recommendations?
