As someone who used to run 25 minute 5ks you'd think I'd be dismissive of my slow slow times but despite weighing in at 226.6 now (was 250 at the beginning of January) I've discovered I can actually still run. Today I reached my first goal of under 35 minutes and ran it in 34:44. Next goal under 34 minutes!

So happy for you! I am working on my 5K time this year, too. My February race was so much slower than I want but the whole point is to have a starting point and get faster!! :) When's your next race?

Not sure yet- I'd like to get down to under 30 minutes regularly first I think!

I've added mile repeats to my weekly runs - I hate them (pant, pant) but I think the longer intervals are going to be good for bringing my times down. Gotta train fast to race fast ...

Congrats! Best thing about any race is it gives you a mark to use for your next one. Just keep running consistently and you're time will drop. Especially as you keep losing weight.

Thanks ladies! I remember getting from 30 to 27 minutes was relatively easy but 27 to 25 was a b**ch and I was really fit then! I'm hoping 35 to 30 doesn't feel too bad- I'm hoping for 30 by early summer (got 5 weeks abroad with not a lot of running opportunities so that'll slow me up sadly)

Thank you- tried running 12 minute mile/10 minute mile splits which made it seem more manageable!
