(I'm sorry if this question has been asked before) but am I suppose to eat LESS than my TDEE to lose weight? Or is it BMR? Or, do I combine both BMR and TDEE and subtract something? I have no idea how many calories I should consume/not go over to lose weight healthy.

I workout 4-5x week, cardio and lifting. I'm building muscle but not losing weight and I wonder if that's b/c I'm not eating enough or maybe eating too much ( I know it could also be building muscle) I'm ready to start tracking my calories/food again but now that I'm working out, I am so confused. I noticed my appetite is increasing as I am working out more--I don't want to starve myself b/c I know I need to fuel etc. esp with muscles forming (which I love!!!). I don't want my body to think it's in starvation mode b/c then my metabolism will plummet right?

Thanks for any advice :)

    Yes

    "Or is it BMR? "

That's how many calories your body needs to keep going in a coma

"Or, do I combine both BMR and TDEE and subtract something? "

Nope, MFP method is NEAT: BMR+general activity without exercise...when you logged in you get a calorie allowance - eat that

Then log exercise and eat half the calories (double click when you add exercise and manually halve them ...the MFP database overestimates

" I have no idea how many calories I should consume/not go over to lose weight healthy."

    MFP plus 50-75% exercise calories

"I workout 4-5x week, cardio and lifting. I'm building muscle but not losing weight and I wonder if that's b/c I'm not eating enough or maybe eating too much"

Gaining muscle you need to eat at a surplus...but if new to lifting you can make amazing strength gains as a noob

No such thing as starvation mode and wrong about metabolism
