Hello all, I started the couch to 5k programme on Monday, I did my first run outside. However, I felt very self conscious about myself running (I have low self confidence issues)

I would like to do the programme on the treadmill in the gym until I feel better about going into the big wide world.

My question is: What incline would I need to set the treadmill at to give a better representation of running outside (so I can switch to running outside when I'm feeling more confident).

Thank you for your help

allie

I'm pretty new to running so u can take my advice with a grain of salt...but for now I wouldn't worry about the incline. Start at 0 and concern yourself more with endurance. Once you get that down then you can tinker with the other stuff (speed, incline,) etc.

I'm finishing week 3, have 1 day left. I switch back and forth with the treadmill and outside. I would say keep it at 0 like Ssoftw said. I can't imagine messing with the incline when I'm trying to train myself to run a specific distance. I would be afraid of injuring myself that way.

    Happy Running!!

In the military when people elect to do the run portion of their physical readiness test on the treadmill we use a 1.0 incline.

I used 1.0 when I first started as a runner and could never complete my goal runs without taking walking breaks when I was getting ready for my first 5k; when I did finally run on the road I found it to be much easier and I cruised through my first 5K.
