Chocolate confession...

my daughter has a bag of Reese's eggs... I caved. My weakness is chocolate. I've gone a week without it and just caved on it. I'm glad I did though... Because it totally effected my mood and I instantly felt I had no energy. Good reminder of what this stuff can do to you after clean eating. Any good ideas for the chocolate cravings? I made protein balls the other night with chocolate protein powder and peanut butter... But it's high in fat and my cravings come at night. Thanks!!!!

Justin's Chocolate Hazelnut Butter. I love this stuff, but it's 90 calories a tablespoon.0

Anything that will help kick the cravings at the end of the night! Hopefully I'll be able to find a low carb low fat item. May be wishful thinking when it comes to chocolate0

A regular candy bar is usually 250 calories or less......0

If you cut something out entirely, you are more likely to give in at some point and go overboard. I have chocolate almost every day. It's just my opinion, but I think it's better to learn to have a reasonable portion that fits in your calorie goal rather than to cut something out entirely. And there are some things there just are no good substitutes for, and for me a good piece of chocolate is one of them. Just my 2 cents, good luck :drinker:0

I eat chocolate when I crave chocolate. I have cookies or brownies or chocolate or etc. at least once a day.0

I like to have some chocolate before a rather robust lifting session, I find that when I'm in a deficit it gives me a boost of energy thanks to the sugar and caffeine. Personally, I think a life without chocolate is a life not worth living, but that's me. Now I'm off to find some dirty, sugar filled, processed dessert.

There's no way I could cut out chocolate or try to substitute it with something else. I feel a bit disgusted with myself when I look back on how much I was eating before I came here though
every single 'diet' I've been on I've tried to cut it out completely but of course I always caved after a couple of weeks and ate enough of the stuff to feed a small town. That's why I love mfp so much, I just save enough calories for it

Fit some chocolate into your calories every so often. Deprivation can lead to binging, so a small treat every now and then won't ruin your diet.0

Did you eat most of the bag? Why not practice portion control and have a few?0
-
I only had a few, but felt so guilty because I am trying to keep my carbs and fat low. So I was seeing if there were some alternatives for kicking that craving0

I have a piece of Lindt dark chocolate (I believe 75%). The ones I get are pre-wrapped and only 30 calories each.
Though I hate the garbage that it makes because of all the wrappers, it's nice to have the wrappers staring me in the face if I eat a bunch.
Mine are only 30 calories. And dark chocolate. I fit one in every day, so that I don't go crazy and eat an entire bag's worth in one sitting.
You just need to figure out what works for you.0 -

Food should not make you feel guilty. If you can fit it into your calories, then go for it. I have chocolate, ice cream, or some other type of sweet every night and make the room for it. The only thing that matters when it comes to losing weight is that you eat less than you burn.0 -
Thank you all
. I just need to get out of my mind set from previous diets where I was not allowed this at all.

Dark chocolate is awesome because it totally satisfies my cravings for 50 calories and I don't feel the need to binge on it. But I have it regularly too, otherwise I know I'll binge eventually.0

Get a rich dark chocolate. One of the other posters said Lindt dark chocolate - that's my go to. I get the 85% and only have a few squares. I get my chocolate, it's fairly low carb, and since it's rich I don't feel like I need much. Yeah, the fat is a little high, but try to reduce the fat in other ways perhaps? Or just get portion control over the chocolate. I didn't know they had pre-wrapped lindt squares but that sounds PERFECT for portion control. Deprivation truly does lead to binging, you know you can't stay away from chocolate, so find a way to fit it in, in small doses, and don't feel guilty about it!0

I have a bag of lovely Guittard chocolate chips that I'm rationing for my chocolate cravings. ~15 chips has only 35 calories--I let them melt in my mouth and it's a perfect chocolate fix!0

Things like this happen, try not to beat yourself up about it. When I overeat, I get that gross feeling too. I try to remember how that felt when I contemplate overeating. Doesn't always work, but I think it helps. Lots of great ideas here!0
