Losing Hope and Being Frustrated

Hey.

I joined this place about a year ago and started getting into then got off track and forgot about it. I've come back to try to get my weight back on track, but it really doesn't seem to be working at all.

I started going to the gym last month to help me out. I go about 3-5 times a week and I go on walks/jogs. I usually spend between an hour to two hours at the gym when I am there and my walk/jogs are about the same amount. I follow my calorie tracker and have cut out a lot of sweets, fats and fast food from my diet, but nothing seems to be helping. I mean, I feel strong and know I gained muscle, but it doesn't show at all. I look exactly the same and actually weigh 10lbs heavier which is the most frustrating.

I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I try to finish my calorie intake about 100-200 calories above what it wants me. I don't think my body is in "Starvation Mode" but I just don't understand. I even have a once a week personal training session to try and help out.

Do I need to exercise even more?! Or what? I'm not expecting to drop 20lbs like that, but damn.... at least 5lbs. Ya know what I am saying? If there is anyone who can help me out or be my motivation pal, that would be amazing. I need it a lot.

Thanks for listening and I hope to hear back from someone.

don't give up. I too was a former member that just stopped all efforts and I am back. No longer on focusing on size or numbers but looking just to get healthier and happy with me. Recently I have given up soda and fast food. Lost 20 pounds so far. Yeah. Get into the mind set that this can be done. You can do it.

  • Unfortunately I have no answers for you, as I too am in the same boat. I just wanted to say don't give up. I think it takes some of us way more time to see results than others. Hang in there!

    Hi!
I'm not sure how much help I can be but I'm good for support :) I also started about a year ago and have stayed at my same weight almost the entire time (I gained about 6 lbs at one point and then lost it again). I try thinking of it as a good thing that I'm not gaining but its VERY frustrating doing all this work and not seeing the pay off. I'm not sure what you're weight loss goals are, and you don't have to tell me if you don't want to, but everyone keeps telling me it's because I don't have an extreme amount to lose so it takes a lot more work and time. Not really sure how true that is?
Anyways, I'd be happy to chat on here if you want, offer support and vent about struggles :)

    Hi

I can not see your food diary. I will just share my experience.

It took me 12 weeks ( 3 full months) of following MFP daily before the weight scale move at all.

First, I started to lose inches at my waist, slowly but surely.

Please be patience, persistence and disciplined.

Also read about TDEE and BMR at MFP Message Boards. I found them very useful.(use Search option at the top)

I started to measure and weight most of my food. I bought a Heart Rate Monitor for the calories burned at my workouts.

Eat at a deficit every day. I read this somewhere: Eat Food. Not too much. Mostly plants.

    Good luck in your journey

Thank you all. I'm glad that I am not alone on this boat in the sea of up and down frustration. I will definitely stick to it and check out the TDEE, BMR and MFP. Thanks socioseguro. All of your support will help me push through and keep struggling to push through it. Thanks.

Like anything worth doing, it takes some time. DO NOT GIVE UP! You're not going to get anywhere at all if you stop trying. You CAN do it. I know you can! Just be VERY honest with yourself and your food diary, and hopefully things will start to move in the right direction. Don't forget muscle weighs more than fat, and if you're gaining muscle and losing fat, you might not see it on the scale yet.
Keep it up though, you will be glad you did one day!
