I had knee surgery in the summer, and gained maybe 25 pounds, and I want to get back down to that size and have my summer body back, what should I do? Diet? Workouts?

Both, but getting your diet on track is the most important. I get my recommended calorie and macro intake from iifym.com and my workouts from bodybuilding.com0

L pendleton is correct. The best thing to lose weight is eating a calorie deficit below your tdee (total daily energy expenditure). If you do that you will lose weight. If you want to speed up the process and tone you should definitely exercise too.
Log everything in mfp. I suggest weighing everything too. That sounds odd to individuals at first but trust me. If you don't weigh your food you will eat far more calories than you think. For example, look at your favorite cereal nutrition info. It will likely say about 150 calories for a half cup (just for example). After measuring it then weigh it. I'm being they will be way off from one another.
This works for me anyway. Less than a year ago I was 230 lbs and 25 percent body fat. I am now 165 lbs and less than 10 percent.
You can do this!0
